About the Role

We are looking for a lawyer to join our team to lead our privacy function. You will play a crucial role as our service offering expands internationally; you will advise the engineering and product teams as we continue to interleave privacy into everything Accordance does, have ownership of the corporate privacy function, and negotiate with customers on thorny privacy issues (such as regarding our Data Processing Addendum). You will also play a role on our commercial team by negotiating platform agreements in support of our sales/ Go-To-Market team.

This role is based in San Francisco, CA. We use an in-person work model and offer relocation assistance to new employees.

Responsibilities

Generative AI has the power to greatly change the world and directly impact how things get done. Accordance is at the forefront of this change, and our mission is to make generative AI actionable and useful for our customers. This is a fast moving environment (we are a start-up!) that is serving some of the world’s most renowned law firms and professional organizations. You will:

  • Refine, update, and adapt our key privacy agreements (that is our Data Processing Addendum and Privacy Policy) in order to ensure compliance with evolving laws and frameworks especially as the Platform grows and expands

  • Negotiate with customers both with respect to our Data Processing Addendum and, more generally, on our commercial agreements

  • Work with our product and engineering teams as we work to bring an EU-based version of Accordance to market

  • You will conduct Impact Assessments relating to our key vendors, you will work on training and awareness to ensure that our employees are fully aware of our privacy obligations, where required, you will support any incident investigations

Qualifications
  • A law degree from an accredited law school

  • Admitted to practice law and in good standing in at least one jurisdiction and able to practice in California

  • 3+ years of law firm and/or in-house experience   

  • Strong background dealing with data privacy (including with customers based in Europe)

  • Experience negotiating SaaS and/or general technology/ IP/ commercial agreements

  • Ability to think creatively, function independently and work proactively in a fast-paced environment
