JOB TITLE: Creative Copywriter, Sr Manager

Position Summary:

The Creative Copywriter, Sr Manager is an individual contributor responsible for developing bold, compelling copy that brings athenahealth’s brand voice to life across campaigns, paid media, event themes, and other short-form marketing content. This role combines high-level creative concepting with hands-on copywriting, requiring an experienced writer who can move fluidly between big-picture thinking and precise execution.

This position works across the full lifecycle of a project, helping shape the creative idea and then translating it into impactful copy that aligns with brand voice, messaging strategy, and business goals. The Creative Copywriter, Sr Manager will work from existing messaging frameworks as well as help create new ones, with a strong ability to push creative boundaries while maintaining consistency and clarity.

Essential Job Responsibilities:

  • Develop original, high-impact copy for a wide range of short-form marketing materials, including:

    • Campaign headlines

    • Paid media

    • Brand messaging

    • Manifesto scripts

    • Event themes

    • Social content

    • Web copy

    • Email copy

  • Partner in early-stage creative concepting to help shape the big idea and determine how the brand voice will come to life

  • Translate campaign and brand strategies into bold, compelling copy that resonates with target audiences

  • Work from existing messaging frameworks and also help develop new ones as needed

  • Edit, refine, and optimize copy to ensure clarity, consistency, and quality

  • Collaborate closely with marketing, brand, creative, content, and other cross-functional partners throughout the project lifecycle

  • Push creative thinking while ensuring copy remains aligned to brand voice and messaging standards

  • Bring a strong point of view and a willingness to challenge work that does not meet the desired standard

Expected Education & Experience:

  • 10+ years of experience in copywriting

  • Strong portfolio demonstrating excellent marketing copy, creative concepting, and brand voice execution

  • Experience developing and refining copy across campaigns, paid media, event themes, social, web, and email

  • Demonstrated ability to connect creative strategy with compelling copy execution

  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills

  • Healthcare experience preferred but not required

  • Comfortable working independently and cross-functionally in a fast-paced, idea-driven environment

  • Able to flex between strategic concepting and detailed copy refinement


Expected Compensation

$87,000 - $147,000

The base salary range shown reflects the full range for this role from minimum to maximum. At athenahealth, base pay depends on multiple factors, including job-related experience, relevant knowledge and skills, how your qualifications compare to others in similar roles, and geographical market rates.  Base pay is only one part of our competitive Total Rewards package - depending on role eligibility, we offer both short and long-term incentives by way of an annual discretionary bonus plan, variable compensation plan, and equity plans.
