Position Overview:

The Customer Quality Engineer oversees the qualification and maintenance of laser powder bed fusion metal 3D printers and qualification of RPS printed part production. The Customer Quality Engineer will work both independently and on teams with other engineers under the supervision of Quality management to put together project plans. The job functions will cover overseeing, driving and improving quality in manufacturing, supply chain and field service.

Responsibilities

  • Operate in the inspect, diagnose, and repair mindset.
  • Work closely with manufacturing, process, field service and quality teams to establish and maintain processes and procedures that will ensure consistently high quality.
  • Drive CAPA activity using established processes to determine the root cause of problems and drive for implementation of corrective actions and countermeasures.
  • Comprehend current production quality trends based on dashboards or from occurrences in the line.
  • Rapidly communicate emerging and trending quality issues.
  • Execute timely corrective action for quality mitigation and containment.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to support investigation, containment, and execution for strategic quality issues.
  • Flexibility for dynamic changes in day-to-day work as it pertains to daily quality priorities.
  • Maintain quality performance metrics and drive issues to root cause solutions.
  • Audit manufacturing line against released manufacturing processes and procedures.
  • Assist in the identification and resolution of manufacturing quality issues, contain parts or products as needed, sort parts for quality requirements.
  • Participate in continuous improvement activities, with manufacturing and external suppliers.
  • Take part in an ongoing optimization of the products with respect to both cost and production technology.
  • Assist with external and internal audit activity.
  • Support FMEA activities to ensure design and manufacturing issues are identified and risks mitigated.
  • Analyze and disposition product nonconformances as a member of the Material Review Board.
  • Analyze and interpret data independently.
  • Anticipate potential problems and take preventative action.
  • Help running supplier continuous improvement plans.

    Requirements:
  • Required: Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an accredited university.
  • Required: Minimum of 3 – 8 years of experience working with industry standards that include ISO 9001 and AS9100.
  • Required: Experience processing CAPAs, NCRs and extensive problem-solving, root cause analysis.
  • Required: Experience in reading and interpreting mechanical drawings.
  • Required: Experience with Lean Manufacturing/Six Sigma practices, 5S, TPS, TQM, etc.
  • High commitment to contribute to a positive, high paced, and results oriented work environment.
  • Strong desire to work for a dynamic company working on disruptive technologies and make it a success, high level of tolerance to ambiguity.
  • Creativity in problem solving; ability to quantify problems and develop analytical solution development, proficient in data-driven decision making.
  • Demonstrated ability to be disciplined in approach and thought process.
  • Team-oriented and self-directed.
  • High level of accountability.
  • Experience within quality systems in a medium/high volume manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with ISO 9001, AS9100, ISO/TS 16949, APQP, PPAP, FMEA, DFMEA, PFMEA preferred.
  • Strong aptitude for electronic test and measurements systems.
  • Ability to work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment, ability to lift and sort parts of up to 30 pounds as needed.
  • Detail oriented with strong record-keeping and organizational skills.
  • Ability to use technological tools and business system applications to manage, synthesize, and interpret data.
  • Knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) highly desired.
