Own a portfolio of clients to maximize retention and growth: run client calls, analyze lead and performance data, spot retention risks and upsell opportunities, coordinate internal teams to deliver on strategy, and contribute process and AI-driven improvements to internal systems.

Matador Solutions is a performance-based marketing agency that helps small and medium businesses grow. We serve more than 175 law firms and a growing number of healthcare practices. We work month-to-month, we never lock clients into contracts, and we only win when our clients do. We have grown every year with zero outside funding, and we just bought our own headquarters in Santa Monica.

We are a small team of smart, dedicated people who move fast. The work keeps us on our toes, in the best possible way. AI is reshaping search right now, and keeping up with it is a real challenge and a genuinely fun one. We love new ideas, we ask a lot of questions, and we build together. If that sounds like your kind of place, read on.

The role

Your north star is retention. You will own a portfolio of clients, keep them happy and winning, and keep them with Matador. That means running great client calls, learning to read their performance and lead data, and always hunting for the next opportunity, whether that is a smart upsell or a new way to help their business grow.

You will also help shape how we work. We want someone who brings ideas to the table, not just someone who executes them, and who is excited to help us build AI into our internal systems and make the whole team faster and sharper. Internally, this position is formally titled Co-op Project Manager, though you will work with clients and represent the role as a Customer Success Manager.

In a typical week you will:

  • Run client calls and keep communication clear, confident, and proactive.
  • Learn to read lead and performance data, and turn it into recommendations clients can act on.
  • Catch retention risks early and spot upsell opportunities often.
  • Work with our internal teams so client work ships on time and on strategy.
  • Bring ideas, ask good questions, and help us build better systems, including with AI.

Requirements

What makes you a great fit

  • Great with people. You build trust fast and like being someone's go-to person.
  • A go-getter with experience. You have at least two years of professional experience in a client-facing role, and a lot of drive to grow fast.
  • Endlessly curious. You are genuinely excited to learn this space, and to learn AI, which is changing it fast.
  • A builder. You pick up new systems quickly and you are bold enough to improve them and build better ones.
  • Mission-driven. You get a kick out of helping real businesses grow with a service that actually works.
  • Detail-obsessed. You catch what others miss and you follow through on every commitment.

Legal or marketing experience is a plus, but not required. We care far more about curiosity and drive than directly relevant experience.

Benefits

What we offer

  • Gold-level health, dental, and vision insurance
  • Generous PTO and a 401k with match
  • Remote within the US and Canada. LA-based team members work a hybrid schedule, in the office Tuesdays and Thursdays.
  • Quarterly team trips to our Santa Monica headquarters
  • A seasoned team with a 4-plus year average tenure, and pay that grows every year
  • Salary of $75,000 to $95,000 USD in the US, or CA$63,000 to CA$84,000 in Canada, based on experience

What you need to know about the San Francisco Tech Scene

San Francisco and the surrounding Bay Area attracts more startup funding than any other region in the world. Home to Stanford University and UC Berkeley, leading VC firms and several of the world’s most valuable companies, the Bay Area is the place to go for anyone looking to make it big in the tech industry. That said, San Francisco has a lot to offer beyond technology thanks to a thriving art and music scene, excellent food and a short drive to several of the country’s most beautiful recreational areas.

Key Facts About San Francisco Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 365,500; 13.9% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Google, Apple, Salesforce, Meta
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, cloud computing, fintech, consumer technology, software
  • Funding Landscape: $50.5 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Sequoia Capital, Andreessen Horowitz, Bessemer Venture Partners, Greylock Partners, Khosla Ventures, Kleiner Perkins
  • Research Centers and Universities: Stanford University; University of California, Berkeley; University of San Francisco; Santa Clara University; Ames Research Center; Center for AI Safety; California Institute for Regenerative Medicine
