The Role
CTO Business Operations enables SoFi’s Engineering, Product, and Design (EPD) organization to execute with operational rigor, financial discipline, and organizational clarity. We create the systems, processes, and insights that help the CTO organization scale effectively.
As a Data Analyst, you will support the data, analytics, and reporting processes that drive headcount management, resource planning, and engineering capitalization. This role is critical to ensuring the EPD organization is staffed, funded, and aligned to support SoFi’s strategic priorities. You’ll partner with People, Talent Acquisition, Accounting, and Finance to maintain accurate data, support planning cycles, and deliver insights to leadership.
What you’ll do
- Headcount & Resource Planning
- Maintain and continuously improve the EPD roster, ensuring headcount data is accurate, timely, and reconciled across systems (HRIS, FP&A, Talent Acquisition).
- Track hiring progress, backfills, team movements, and capacity impacts across all engineering and product teams.
- Build and manage resource reports and custom org models that provide the CTO and EPD leaders with real-time visibility into resource allocation, staffing gaps, and deployment of engineering resources.
- Support quarterly and annual headcount planning cycles with clean data and analysis.
- Capitalization & Financial Insight
- Drive the capitalization tracking process for Engineering, Product, and Design — including project classification, labor allocation, and data collection from team leaders.
- Ensure high data integrity for capitalization reporting in alignment with Finance and audit requirements.
- Partner with Finance and Accounting to understand and communicate the financial impact of engineering activities and staffing.
- Data Management, Reporting & Analytics
- Build, enhance, and maintain datasets and dashboards that provide visibility into headcount, project workloads, and financial implications.
- Develop automated reporting for leadership review, operating cadences, and planning cycles.
- Perform ad-hoc analysis to support organizational design, workforce planning, and engineering prioritization decisions.
- Ensure strong data governance and documentation across CTO Business Operations.
- Cross-Functional Partnership
- Collaborate with EPD leaders, Business Operations, Finance, Accounting, People Partners, and Talent Acquisition to drive alignment on staffing, capacity, and financial planning.
- Consolidate and translate inputs from engineering teams into structured metrics, narratives, and recommendations.
- Support executive-level summaries and materials for CTO leadership.
What You’ll Need
- 2–5+ years of experience in data analysis, business operations, FP&A, workforce planning, or a related field.
- Strong proficiency in Excel/Sheets, SQL, Workday, and data visualization tools (e.g., Looker, Tableau, PowerBI).
- Experience working with engineering or technical teams is a plus.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to turn complex datasets into actionable insights.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- High attention to detail, operational rigor, and commitment to data accuracy.
- Ability to work in fast-paced, ambiguous environments while managing multiple priorities.
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Economics, Data Analytics, Engineering, or a related field.
- Bonus Points
- Experience with capitalization for software development or engineering time tracking.
- Experience with Snowflake and JIRA for integration of resource and project data to gain valuable insights.
- Familiarity with Agile development structures and engineering team workflows.
- Experience supporting operational or financial processes for technical organizations.
