The Ritchie Bros. Sales Effectiveness team is seeking a high-impact data analyst to serve as a strategic analytics partner across commercial and operational functions.  This role is responsible for transforming complex data into actionable insights that drive performance, improve decision making and enhance the effectiveness of sales, marketing and auction operations.  As part of a fast-paced, data rich environment, the analyst will operate with a high degree of autonomy – owning end to end workflows, from problem framing through execution and communication insights. The role requires a strong blend of technical expertise, business acumen, and the ability to influence stakeholders through clear, compelling narratives.  This position plays a critical role in advancing the organization’s analytical capabilities by moving beyond descriptive reporting toward predictive and prescriptive analytics that inform strategic and operational decisions. This role is a Hybrid work position. 

As a data analyst you will…

  • Serve as a trusted analytics partner to business units and functional teams, supporting decision making through data driven insights
  • Translate ambiguous business questions into structured analytical approaches, defining data requirements, methodologies, and success criteria
  • Proactively identify opportunities to improve business performance across sales, marketing and auction operations (including both live and digital marketplaces)
  • Develop scalable analytical solutions and data products that enable self-service insights and ongoing performance monitoring
  • Synthesize complex findings into clear, concise recommendations tailored to both technical and non-technical audiences 
  • Two-sided marketplace dynamics – Understanding and optimizing the interactions between buyers and sellers to maximize liquidity, pricing efficiency, and network effects
  • Data as a strategic asset – Leveraging a highly scalable and diverse data ecosystem to uncover insights and drive measurable business impact
  • Analytical rigor and critical thinking – Applying structured problem-solving and hypothesis driven analysis to complex, cross functional challenges

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Finance, Business Analytics, or Statistics
  • Multiple years of professional experience in analytics, business intelligence, or a related field. 
  • Experience working with large, complex datasets in a dynamic business environment. 
  • Industry experience in the Heavy Equipment, Construction, Industrial, Rental, or related B2B Capital Goods sector strongly preferred
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint
  • Strong experience with Business Intelligence and Data Visualization tools (PBI, Tableau)
  • Proficiency in data querying and programming languages such as SQL, Python, or similar
  • Travel as needed

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated ability to independently lead analytical initiatives and make informed recommendations with limited oversight  
  • Proven experience synthesizing complex data into clear insights for senior stakeholders and/or external clients
  • Strong judgement in prioritizing competing analytical requests based on business impact

    Ability to identify macroeconomic and industry trends and assess their implications on business performance



Responsibilities
  • Independently execute complex analysis - structuring analysis, executing analysis, synthesizing results, presenting results Act as an analytics partner for different business units and functional teams within the organization
  • Lead / take ownership of data related products - e.g., building report dashboards to support the business and /or close support of business line analysis
  • Translate business questions into specific requirements and then deliver meaningful insights through a combination of expert technical skill and deep understanding of the business problem.
  • Execute analysis of the company’s customer and business data, including predictive modeling, forecasting and statistical analysis
  • Proactively identify solutions for improving the effectiveness of business activities within sales, marketing, and auction operations.
  • Routine reporting - Support regular monthly business reporting requirements
  • Presentation of analysis - convene groups & teams to collaborate on issue or questions.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • At least 3-5 years’ experience in a related role or industry
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
