City Cast is the leading network of local podcasts and newsletters, with daily shows in cities across the country. We're looking for a Data Analyst to become the connective tissue between our audience, our editorial work, and our business.

As City Cast's Data Analyst, you will be the single source of truth for our audience and revenue data. You'll build and maintain dashboards that bring together listenership, newsletter engagement, web traffic, advertising performance, and subscriber data. You'll forecast where we're headed, surface the patterns behind growth (and decline), and help our staff understand what the numbers are telling us.

This role reports into the Chief Operating Officer and works cross-functionally with editorial, revenue, marketing, and operations.

Deadline to apply: May 28, 2026

What You'll Do
  • Own City Cast's audience and revenue data end-to-end — from ingestion and cleaning through dashboarding, reporting, and storytelling.
  • Define and steward the metrics that matter to City Cast, working with leadership to align on definitions, benchmarks, and goals.
  • Work with operations, membership, revenue, finance, editorial teams to build out a robust data ecosystem.
  • Wrangle and maintain a unified analytics dashboards that pulls from podcast platforms (Megaphone, Apple Podcasts, Spotify), newsletter ESP, web analytics, our CRM, and subscription systems.
  • Design dashboards tailored to different audiences — high-level health metrics for the executive team, market-level performance for editorial, pipeline and pacing for revenue.
  • Forecast audience growth across our network, by city and by line of business, and stress-test those forecasts against real performance. Support finance and sales forecasts.
  • Develop first-party data strategy and maintenance across platforms.
  • Deliver clear, regular insights to staff — what's working, what isn't, what changed this month, and why it matters — through written reports, presentations, and informal coaching.
  • Use AI tools to scale your work — from accelerating dashboard development and data pipeline buildout, to automating routine reporting, to surfacing patterns and anomalies you'd otherwise miss. Help the broader team get more out of our data through AI-assisted workflows.
  • Support specific investigations and decisions — pricing changes, new market launches, format experiments, ad product performance — with rigorous, on-demand analysis.

RequirementsWhat You Bring
  • You have 4+ years of experience in a data analyst, business intelligence, or audience analytics role, ideally in news, podcasting, or media.
  • You've worked in a media environment and understand the rhythms of a newsroom, the realities of audience growth, and the dynamics of advertising and subscription revenue.
  • You're fluent in SQL and comfortable in at least one BI or visualization tool (Looker, Tableau, Power BI, Mode, Metabase, or similar). Experience with Python or R for analysis is a plus.
  • You're fluent with AI tools and excited to use them in your work — whether that's coding faster with an AI assistant, querying data conversationally, prototyping dashboards, or building lightweight internal tools. You have a clear-eyed sense of where AI accelerates the work and where it needs human judgment.
  • You've built dashboards that people actually use — not just look at once — and you understand the difference.
  • You're a strong communicator who can present findings to non-technical colleagues — including journalists and executives — with clarity and judgment about what matters.
  • You're self-directed and comfortable being the first and only person in this seat. You enjoy building structures where there aren't any yet.
  • You care about local journalism and the communities City Cast serves.
