The Data Engineering Manager leads the design, development, and maintenance of data infrastructure and pipelines that support analytics, reporting, machine learning, and business operations. This role combines technical leadership with people management, ensuring that data systems are reliable, scalable, secure, and aligned with business requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage a team of data engineers.
  • Design and oversee scalable data pipelines, data warehouses, and data platforms.
  • Establish standards for data quality, reliability, security, and governance.
  • Collaborate with data scientists, analysts, software engineers, and business stakeholders.
  • Translate business requirements into effective data engineering solutions.
  • Monitor data infrastructure and resolve performance or reliability issues.
  • Oversee data integrations from internal and external sources.
  • Review technical designs and code to maintain engineering quality.
  • Plan projects, prioritize workloads, and manage engineering resources.
  • Mentor team members and support their professional development.
  • Evaluate and introduce appropriate data technologies and tools.
  • Ensure data systems comply with organizational security and privacy requirements.
  • Monitor project timelines, budgets, and deliverables.
  • Communicate technical progress, risks, and recommendations to senior leadership.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in data engineering or a related technical field.
  • Previous experience leading or managing data engineering teams.
  • Strong knowledge of SQL and programming languages such as Python or Java.
  • Experience with data warehouses, databases, ETL/ELT processes, and data pipelines.
  • Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud.
  • Strong understanding of data architecture and data modeling.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with platforms such as Snowflake, Databricks, BigQuery, or Redshift.
  • Familiarity with Apache Spark, Kafka, Airflow, or similar data technologies.
  • Experience implementing CI/CD and automated testing for data pipelines.
  • Knowledge of data governance, security, and compliance practices.
  • Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments.
  • Strong project management and stakeholder-management skills.
