Hi, we’re Gravie. Our mission is to create health benefits that actually benefit small and midsize businesses and their employees. Our innovative benefit solutions and services are developed and delivered by a diverse group of unique people. We encourage you to be your authentic self - we like you that way.
A Little More About The role:
We are seeking a hands-on Data Platform Architect to serve as a leader in our ongoing data and digital transformation. This is a high-impact, senior individual contributor role that will lead through architectural depth, technical judgment, and design stewardship. You will be responsible for defining the technical blueprint for Gravie’s next generation operational data platform.
You will focus on unifying data that spans internal operational systems, vendors, and partners, evolving beyond traditional batch processing and point-to-point integrations to a near-real time data ecosystem. A history of multiple end-to-end implementations and successful collaboration with Product Engineers, Data Engineers, and Data Operations teams is essential.
You Will:
- Architectural Ownership: Design the end-to-end architecture for the operational data platform, using your experience with technologies like Kafka, Debezium and Flink to ingest and process data streams.
- Canonical Modeling: Collaborate with partner teams to define and govern reference architectures and canonical data models (e.g., for claims and enrollment) that are durable, versioned, and support both internal and external usage. Define Data Contract standards and processes, working with partner teams to socialize and activate these new patterns.
- Governance & Security: Establish and enforce data governance frameworks, internal and external access controls (RBAC), with HIPAA compliance needs in mind.
- Technology Selection: Lead the evaluation and selection of supporting real-time data technologies (e.g., that align with Gravie's compliance needs and strategic direction.
- Technical Leadership: Serve as the architectural authority for complex design decisions, identifies tradeoffs on time, cost, and complexity, and proactively identify architectural risks before they materialize.
- Mentorship: Provide technical coaching and mentorship to Data Producer & Consumer teams.
- Operate at the forefront of Gravie’s Data Platform innovation–with an eye towards activating practical AI use cases
You Bring:
- Extensive Experience: 8-15 years of experience architecting and operating large-scale data integrations, streaming pipelines, and operational data movement in a cloud environment.
- Deep Streaming Expertise: Strong hands-on experience with Kafka, Flink, and Debezium (or similar), and an understanding of stateful stream processing and "exactly-once" delivery semantics is critical.
- Cloud Proficiency: Extensive experience with AWS
- Data Observability Expertise: Deep understanding of data observability concepts like freshness, distribution, volume, schema, and lineage, and how to apply them to real-time healthcare streams–relying on Data Reliability OKRs to influence change.
- Healthcare Domain Knowledge: Prior experience in a healthcare setting, with a deep understanding of HIPAA, ePHI, and the requirements for maintaining secure data exchange and access with external parties.
- Technical Mastery: Expert-level proficiency in SQL and Python. A foundational knowledge of JVM-based languages like Java is highly preferred.
- Strategic Thinking: Demonstrated ability to take complex, ambiguous problems and independently drive them to concrete, measurable solutions that align with business goals.
- Communication Skills: Success in driving results through influence and collaboration, with the ability to translate technical concepts for business stakeholders and executive leadership.
- Previous venture-backed start-up company experience.
