Garner’s mission is to transform the healthcare economy, delivering high-quality and affordable care for all.

We are fundamentally reimagining how healthcare works in the U.S. by partnering with employers to redesign healthcare benefits using clear incentives and powerful, data-driven insights. Our approach guides employees to higher-quality, lower-cost care, creating a system that works better for everyone. Patients achieve better health outcomes, employers spend healthcare dollars more effectively, and physicians are rewarded for delivering exceptional care rather than performing more procedures.

Garner is one of the fastest-growing healthcare technology companies in the country. Our products are trusted by the most sophisticated employers and providers in the industry, and we are building a team of talented, mission-driven individuals who are motivated to make a meaningful impact on healthcare at scale.

About the role:

We are seeking an exceptional Data Scientist II to join our Central Data team. This role will report to the Director, Data Science & Analytics. This role is critical to shaping Garner’s Product & Growth strategy - from evaluating the impact of our products to building models that drive engagement. You will collaborate with data, product & engineering to improve the effectiveness of Garner’s member facing product – e.g., answering questions like, “what features of our product drive engagement?”, “What is the best time of day and channel to outreach to members?”, or “What data concepts do we need to build out to improve our understanding of what drives someone to engage with Garner?” Your work will directly impact our member-facing products and inform strategic product decisions.

Where you will work:

This role will be based in our New York City office. You must be willing to work in the office 3 days per week on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

What you will do:
  • Identify and measure success of product efforts through goal setting, AB testing, forecasting, and monitoring of key product metrics to understand trends
  • Own projects end to end including problem definition, implementation, validation, & iteration
  • Research, develop, and maintain data pipelines, statistical models, and advanced analytical solutions, including AI & machine learning models
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with data scientists, product leaders, engineering & operations teams  to shape how we define product & member engagement metrics, apply statistical rules, and model member behavior
  • Synthesize & present your work to Garner leadership to drive company level decisions
  • Contribute to improving data science practices, tooling, and documentation
What you will bring to the team:
  • 2+ years of experience in data science, applied analytics, or a related quantitative field (industry, academia, or both)
  • 2+ years of experience using SQL and Python and/or R to query, analyze, and manipulate data
  • 2+ years of experience building data models, using more advanced analytics methods, statistical modeling, and/or data processing
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with ability to present information and analysis results effectively
  • A demonstrated ability to independently solve difficult problems and deliver high quality results to senior stakeholders
  • A willingness to “roll up your sleeves” and do whatever is necessary to ensure company success, ideally in a startup environment
  • A desire to be a part of a high-performing, mission-driven team that operates with intense urgency, a strong sense of individual accountability, and a commitment to authentic feedback

This is a unique opportunity to join a fast-growing company in a transformative role, helping shape the future of healthcare.

Please note: we are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment visa at this time.

Compensation Transparency:

The target salary range for this position is $158,000 - $175,000. Individual compensation for this role will depend on various factors, including qualifications, skills, and applicable laws. In addition to base compensation, this role is eligible to participate in our equity incentive and competitive benefits plans, including but not limited to: flexible PTO, Medical/Dental/Vision plan options, 401(k), Teladoc Health and more.

  • Major Tech Employers: Google, Apple, Salesforce, Meta
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, cloud computing, fintech, consumer technology, software
  • Funding Landscape: $50.5 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
