About us

Alpha is a product studio focused on the intersection of AI and consumer social – backed by a16z and many of the top investors in the world. Our goal is to create social products that we use, that our friends use, and that have the potential to reach billions of people.

Clubhouse was our first app, and we’ve been quietly growing that while building our next set of products. We have years of runway, millions of users, and find ourselves at a very interesting time, where AI is making entirely new things possible with voice.

If you are a talented builder who’s interested in joining us, we’d love to talk.

The Role
  • You'll be the primary Data Scientist embedded with our product squad focused on the Clubhouse app team driving host activation and growth. 2026 is a pivotal year: we're laser-focused on helping hosts succeed, and you'll be at the center of measuring whether that's working.

  • You'll own the data strategy for your squad to support our growth — identifying which questions matter most, designing experiments, and surfacing opportunities the team hasn't seen yet. Some weeks that's a rigorous A/B test in Eppo; other weeks it's an exploratory analysis that reshapes the roadmap. You'll work closely with our Staff Data Scientist for mentorship and thought partnership, but you'll operate with significant autonomy day-to-day.

We're a small team (1 data scientist + a part-time data engineer) at a company with millions of users. Your work will be high-leverage and visible.

  • We are a remote friendly-company — with a strong commitment to ensuring people can do great work here and thrive without having to live near an office. This role is open to candidates across the U.S.

Who you are
  • You're technically deep. You have 4+ years of experience as a data scientist. You're highly fluent in SQL and Python – not just for analysis, but comfortable enough to read a production Django codebase, audit what's being logged, and spec (or make) small changes when needed. You've designed and analyzed experiments, and you know the difference between a well-run test and a noisy one, and you have exposure to predictive modeling or ML techniques.

  • You think like a product partner, not a service org. You don't wait for requests – you proactively identify what questions matter, size opportunities, and help product managers figure out where to place bets. You have a healthy skepticism about data and know when something doesn't add up and dive deeper towards the right solution.

  • You communicate with clarity. You can take a messy analysis and turn it into a clear recommendation. You write well. You build dashboards and visualizations that people actually use to make decisions.

  • You thrive with autonomy. You'll have mentorship available, but this role requires someone who can drive their own work. You're comfortable with ambiguity and see it as an opportunity, not a blocker.

  • You ship. You have a bias toward getting things done. You'd rather have a good-enough answer today than a perfect one in two weeks.

  • You are a team player. You have a low-ego, put the team’s success first, and believe that fostering a collaborative and diverse environment is not only integral to the team's well-being but also crucial for driving innovation and achieving long-term success.

What you will do
  • Own experimentation for your squad. Design experiments, ensure proper targeting and logging, analyze results, and make clear recommendations. The team you’d be supporting is testing features that help new hosts get past the cold start – things like simplified room creation, feedback at the end of rooms, and discovery improvements. You'll be the person who tells us what's working.

  • Size opportunities and guide roadmap decisions. Before we build, we need to know if it's worth building. You'll help PMs estimate the potential impact of proposed features – using historical data, cohort analysis, and whatever creative methods get us to a defensible answer.

  • Monitor and investigate your squad’s metrics. You'll be responsible for metrics like R2 retention (do new hosts come back for a second room?), signups per host, and the sub-metrics that drive them. When something moves unexpectedly, you'll dig in and figure out why.

  • Ensure data quality and logging coverage. You'll audit what we're logging, identify gaps before features ship, and make sure the data exists to answer the questions we need to ask. This means reading production code and working with engineers to spec (or implement) logging changes.

  • Grow toward predictive modeling. As you master the opportunity-sizing and experimentation work, there's a clear path toward more advanced predictive analysis – identifying which hosts are likely to churn, which features drive long-term retention, and building models that proactively shape product direction, and developing the strategic judgment to identify which problems are worth solving before anyone asks.

  • You’ll grow, teach, and improve rapidly. At Clubhouse you’ll be working with an incredible team, who love to learn from and teach each other. You’ll find yourself stretching to new areas, immersed in feedback, and growing your skills on a daily basis.

  • You’ll create something meaningful. Social products allow people to connect in ways that were never before possible. When the telephone was invented, it suddenly allowed people to speak with others across the world. Thanks to FaceTime, grandparents everywhere can now watch their grandchildren grow up. At Clubhouse, you’ll be figuring out something entirely new for the world—a positive product that brings people’s voices together to help everyone have a life filled with great friendships.

What you need to know about the San Francisco Tech Scene

San Francisco and the surrounding Bay Area attracts more startup funding than any other region in the world. Home to Stanford University and UC Berkeley, leading VC firms and several of the world’s most valuable companies, the Bay Area is the place to go for anyone looking to make it big in the tech industry. That said, San Francisco has a lot to offer beyond technology thanks to a thriving art and music scene, excellent food and a short drive to several of the country’s most beautiful recreational areas.

Key Facts About San Francisco Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 365,500; 13.9% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Google, Apple, Salesforce, Meta
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, cloud computing, fintech, consumer technology, software
  • Funding Landscape: $50.5 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Sequoia Capital, Andreessen Horowitz, Bessemer Venture Partners, Greylock Partners, Khosla Ventures, Kleiner Perkins
  • Research Centers and Universities: Stanford University; University of California, Berkeley; University of San Francisco; Santa Clara University; Ames Research Center; Center for AI Safety; California Institute for Regenerative Medicine
