About the Role
As a Design Engineer in New Product Innovation, you will be part a multi-disciplinary team of engineers who are tasked with the discovery and development of disruptive new product concepts, new to market features and technologies. You will be responsible for contributing to the collective ideation within your team’s area of focus and helping with the realisation of approved concepts within the NPI Operating Model milestones.
Responsibilities
Generate original ideas and identify market opportunities, translating them into compelling product concepts from first principles up.
Engineer mechanical and electronic systems that define future product specifications, optimising for performance, cost, and manufacturability.
Design and build functional prototypes, including bespoke test methods, for performance validation and stakeholder demonstration.
Validate concepts through appropriate methods, hand calculations, simulations, (MATLAB & Simulink, 1D modelling, Ansys), and or rapid lab testing to assess concept feasibility and performance.
Interpret test and simulation data, presenting insights and proposals in technical / Desing reviews within the team.
Maintain detailed design rationale and contribute to formal specifications, ensuring traceability and clarity in technical decision-making.
Develop scalable mechanical systems using 3D CAD (Siemens NX), PLM (Teamcenter), and simulation tools, collaborating with suppliers as needed.
Collaborate with Research and wider cross-functional teams to integrate new technologies, stay current with industry trends, and apply emerging techniques to enhance product design.
About You
A degree (or equivalent) in a relevant engineering or science discipline.
Experience in a relevant role / organisation, working on complex user needs and challenging technical problems.
A high degree of creativity and the proven ability to work well within small and focused teams.
A creative and considered approach to problem solving, following clear design process.
A practical and methodical approach to design using an iterative development cycle of prototyping and testing across a range of electro-mechanical mediums.
Experience working in a 3D CAD design, Product Systems and Requirements environment.
Basic knowledge and understanding of multiple tooling and manufacturing techniques.
Ability to plan, prioritise tasks and coordinate with the work of others.
The ability to communicate your ideas within your team and across the business to a range of stakeholders.
