About the Role
At ClassWallet, we are redefining how public funds reach the people who need them. We are seeking a DevOps Engineer to play a key role within our platform team, helping to optimize our cloud infrastructure, deployment pipelines, and system visibility. This is a role for a technical leader who views scalability, automation, and observability as foundational elements of a world-class engineering organization.
Reporting to the Sr. Engineering Platform Manager, you will work at the critical intersection of development, operations, and compliance. You will help drive the continuous evolution of our AWS environments, optimize our GitHub-centric deployment lifecycles, and build a proactive observability culture. You will work as a high-impact peer to our Engineering and Security teams, ensuring our platform remains highly available, performant, and reliable for our government partners while strictly adhering to federal and state compliance standards.
Requirements
The ideal candidate is an automation expert who thrives in high-stakes environments and possesses a deep "builder and optimizer" mindset.
Experience: Minimum of 7+ years of experience designing, building, and managing complex Cloud systems (AWS), ideally within FinTech, government, or similarly regulated, high-availability environments.
Regulatory & Compliance Frameworks: Hands-on experience building, managing, and automating infrastructure that adheres to strict government-level security standards, specifically GovRAMP and FedRAMP. Experience partnering with security teams to maintain SOC2 Type 2 compliance is essential.
AWS Mastery: Expert-level proficiency in AWS architecture and services (e.g., EKS/ECS, EC2, S3, RDS, Lambda, VPC, IAM, Route53). You treat cloud infrastructure as a flexible, scalable commodity that is secure by default.
GitHub Optimization & CI/CD: Deep, hands-on expertise in GitHub, GitHub Actions, and advanced deployment strategies. You are adept at optimizing runner performance, creating reusable workflow templates, managing secrets, and implementing zero-downtime deployment models (Blue/Green, Canary).
Observability & Monitoring: Extensive experience implementing and managing modern observability stacks (e.g., Datadog, New Relic, Prometheus, Grafana, CloudWatch). You are highly skilled at configuring distributed tracing, complex alerting, log aggregation, and APM to ensure constant, actionable visibility into system health.
Infrastructure as Code (IaC): Deep knowledge of Terraform, AWS CDK, or CloudFormation to automate the provisioning, scaling, and compliance auditing of environments reliably and consistently.
Application Stack: Strong understanding of supporting Node-based systems and modern web applications within containerized environments (Docker, Kubernetes).
Documentation & Process Design: Proven ability to create and maintain stringent, audit-ready documentation. You don't just build and operate the system; you prove its integrity through impeccable record-keeping and process design. This includes authoring detailed runbooks, architectural diagrams, disaster recovery procedures, and mapping technical controls to compliance frameworks to ensure smooth audits and seamless knowledge transfer across teams.
Collaboration & Culture: Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to foster a culture of end-to-end accountability among Engineering teams, seamlessly bridging the gap between code creation, robust security practices, and continuous production reliability.
Strategic Goals
Your success in this role will be defined by three key pillars:
- Infrastructure Scalability & Compliance: Move beyond standard configurations to implement a highly resilient, automated AWS architecture. You will refine our infrastructure baselines, ensuring our systems can effortlessly scale to handle rapid growth while baking FedRAMP and GovRAMP compliance requirements directly into our infrastructure as code.
- Deployment Velocity & Excellence: Transform our CI/CD processes into a frictionless, automated engine. You will optimize our GitHub Actions pipelines to reduce build times, automate testing and security gates, and enable engineering teams to ship code rapidly, safely, and independently.
- Proactive Observability: Shift our monitoring posture from reactive troubleshooting to proactive observability. By implementing comprehensive metrics, tracing, and intelligent alerting, you will empower the team to anticipate and resolve performance bottlenecks before they impact our users, ensuring ClassWallet's reliability remains the gold standard in the industry.
