Who we are
At Fortis Games we aspire to make great games that bring people together while redefining how game companies work. We believe in building a sense of belonging through our games, their communities, and how we operate and treat each other. Through our game communities, we will create powerful connections and lasting memories. We will foster a culture of diversity, equity and belonging where together our diverse skills, experiences and backgrounds impact the games we make.
We are an early but mighty organization with a leadership team of game industry veterans. There are many opportunities for you to have a big impact on the products we'll be making as well as the overall direction of the company. If you're passionate about tackling difficult problems with direct and thoughtful communication and team first mentality, we may be the right place for you.

About the role

As the Director of AI at Fortis, you will own and drive the company-wide strategy for how Artificial Intelligence is integrated, adopted, and scaled across every part of our business - from game development and creative production to publishing, LiveOps, and internal operations.

You are the company’s AI vision holder - responsible for defining where we invest, why, and how it creates measurable business impact. You will oversee our AI R&D efforts, including management of our AI Engineering team, prioritizing, guiding and scoping AI explorations and ensuring the right problems are being solved for the right reasons.

You will operate at the intersection of engineering, R&D, game studios, creative operations, and business leadership - driving organizational adoption, influencing workflows, and integrating AI into the fabric of how Fortis builds games. This role is deeply cross-functional, highly entrepreneurial, and critical to Fortis’ long-term success.

What you’ll achieve

  • Define Fortis’ AI strategy and roadmap, setting clear priorities that align technical feasibility with business ROI.
  • Lead and manage AI R&D, guiding a technical team toward high-impact, commercially meaningful outcomes.
  • Translate ambiguous cross-functional problems into clear requirements, determining what gets built, why, and in what order.
  • Drive org-wide adoption of AI workflows, ensuring new tools and systems are actually used, not just delivered.
  • Run pilot initiatives across art, engineering, production, and publishing to validate real-world value and scale successful solutions.
  • Establish success metrics and measurement frameworks that quantify efficiency gains, creative acceleration, and bottom-line impact.
  • Champion AI education and alignment, helping teams understand capabilities, limitations, and responsible implementation.
  • Create the operating model for AI at Fortis, defining processes, principles, and repeatable mechanisms for continuous innovation.

What you’ll need to be successful

  • Strong technical fluency in AI/ML concepts - able to debate architecture, evaluate tradeoffs, and challenge assumptions without needing to code.
  • Proven experience leading 0→1, cross-functional initiatives with measurable, org-wide outcomes.
  • Demonstrated ability to drive adoption and behavior change, not just build tools or ship features.
  • Deep understanding of creative or production workflows, ideally including game development pipelines (art, engineering, content).
  • Exceptional strategic decision-making, balancing long-term vision with tactical prioritization in ambiguous environments.
  • Credibility with both technical and creative teams, with strong communication skills and stakeholder alignment instincts.
  • Entrepreneurial bias for action, comfortable operating in a fast-moving, unstructured environment without relying on process or hierarchy.
  • Low-ego, high-ownership mindset, focused on outcomes, clarity, and collaboration rather than politicking or title-driven leadership.

Why join us
There are many reasons to join us, but here are a few:

  • We strongly believe we are changing how games studios operate and at the core of what we do is making great games that create a connected community
  • We're not just about making Games Where You Belong. We're also about building communities where our people belong. That's why Fortis is a thriving environment that celebrates diversity, embraces inclusivity, and fosters growth.
  • Build and grow with a seasoned team of accomplished talent who have left an impactful mark in their disciplines, both in and out of gaming

Fortis is an Equal Opportunity Employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, national origin, protected veteran status, or any other basis protected by applicable law, and will not be discriminated against on the basis of disability.
