Job Description

2025 was a defining year for Sandoz as we continued to leverage our freedom as an standalone company. 2026-2029 will now have us focus on mid-term growth through launches and increased volume in the existing business setting us up well for long-term societal and shareholder value.
 

As Director Business Development Europe you will scout for, evaluate and execute high-value, small molecule in-licensing deals to deliver Sandoz pipeline and augment our existing portfolio.

Your responsibilities will be: 

  • Identify and evaluate potential partners for small molecule products as per Global and region Europe portfolio targets.
  • Pro-actively scout for new product opportunities in line with region Europe focus areas and strategy.
  • Negotiate with potential 3rd party development, license and supply partners to execute on opportunities identified, optimising deal type, timelines and other agreement conditions, to maximise deal value for Sandoz.
  • Represent business development in global and regional growth initiatives and special projects and ensure they are supported through the execution of assigned activities.
  • Ensure internal cross-functional deal alignment and due diligence in line with applicable internal policies and guidelines, involving all relevant stakeholders (e.g. Commercial Operations, Regulatory, Quality, Legal, Intellectual Property, TechOps, Finance, etc.)
  • Develop business cases and communication for management approval of deals.
  • Track and provide regular reporting on activities under responsibility in line with established reporting policies and manager’s requests
  • Ensure all deals are executed according to Global Business Development processes and guidelines
  • Establish/reinforce industry contacts and position Sandoz as ‘Global Partner of Choice’ with key partners
  • BD Single Point of Contact and Alliance Management: develop close, trustful relationships with assigned BD partners and ensure alliance management governance is applied where applicable.  Develop a deep understanding of the BD partner’s capabilities and work with the partner to identify and execute growth opportunities.

What you need to bring to the role:

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in business development and licensing
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in the pharmaceutical industry (ideally internationally)
  • Strong financial modelling and valuations skills and in-depth understanding of main financial valuation methods
  • Strong hands-on approach combined with business acumen and strategic thinking
  • Proven people management and cross-functional project leadership skills
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • Strong negotiation skills
  • Computer literacy
  • Project Management
  • Collaborating Across Boundaries
  • Fluency in English is a must. Basic level in any of Region Europe’s key country languages advantageous

Fully proficient and highly effective employees can expect a starting salary around market median, with those new to the level or with less functional depth at the lower end of the range and those with sustained superior or niche skills towards the higher end of the range. Internal equity and external market data inform our range placement. Annual salary reviews consider performance outcomes, market alignment, and business needs.
