Sony Pictures is seeking a dynamic and confident Director to play an integral role in managing trade and business media relations and collaborating closely with executives and cross-functional teams to ensure Sony Pictures’ Motion Picture Group has a distinct voice coordinating all outbound messaging. The role reports to the SVP, Corporate Communications and will work closely with senior MPG executives, business partners, and various internal cross-functional teams.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Work with the team to provide communications support for the Motion Picture Group division within Sony Pictures Entertainment, assisting in executing trade and business communications.
  • Lead and support trade and business media relations efforts, including proactive story development, reporter engagement, management of media inquiries, and box office communications across all MPG film labels and theatrical releases.
  • Maintain strong relationships with trade reporters, assisting in fielding inquiries, clearing information with internal teams (e.g., executives, publicity, marketing, distribution, legal etc.) and external partners.
  • Manage day-to-day media inquiries related to MPG film releases, studio initiatives, executive activities, and box office performance.
  • Develop and maintain key messaging that reflects MPG's strategic priorities and accomplishments, including announcements, FAQs, executive communications, and other internal and external materials.
  • Identify and develop compelling business, industry, and company narratives that support MPG's strategic communications objectives.
  • Collaborate with internal communications to provide information and important updates about MPG’s film slate and business to employees.
  • Provide strategic communications counsel to MPG leadership and cross-functional stakeholders on business announcements, industry developments, and reputational matters.
  • Support executives at red carpet events, premieres, awards shows, and other industry events as required.
  • Stay informed on and track media coverage and industry trends.

Requirements:

  • 10+ years of corporate communications/media relations experience, preferably within the entertainment industry.
  • College degree required.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong understanding of entertainment and the film industry.
  • Established relationships with key trade media.
  • Strong judgment regarding what is newsworthy and how to position news for maximum relevance and impactful press coverage.
  • Ability to align communications efforts with overall business goals.
  • Demonstrated ability to remain composed while managing sensitive, high-profile, and time-sensitive communications matters.
  • Proven ability to thrive in a fast-paced, evolving media and entertainment landscape, adapting communications strategies while managing competing priorities and tight deadlines.
  • Experience handling complex or challenging media situations, including executive communications.

The anticipated base salary for this position is $135,200-$169,000. This role may also qualify for annual incentive and/or comprehensive benefits. The actual base salary offered will depend on a variety of factors, including without limitation, the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and if applicable, the location of the position.
