OVERVIEW:

The Director – Corporate Counsel, California Employment will serve as a trusted legal advisor to the business, providing practical and actionable guidance on employment law matters. This role focuses on HR-related legal issues across California, Washington, Oregon, and other West Coast jurisdictions. Responsibilities include litigation management, advice and counsel, and ensuring compliance with state and local employment laws.

Key Responsibilities
  • Partner with business teams to deliver risk-focused, practical support.

  • Provide training and guidance on California wage and hour issues, bonus/commission structures, final pay requirements, paid sick leave laws, predictive scheduling, and strict liability matters.

  • Manage and advise on EEOC claims and broader employment law issues across the West Coast.

  • Collaborate with and oversee outside counsel to ensure seamless support.

  • Align external legal resources with internal priorities, deadlines, and risk analysis.

Education
  • Juris Doctor (JD) required.

Experience
  • 7 - 10 years of legal experience.

  • Proven expertise in providing employment law advice and managing litigation.

  • Direct experience with West Coast employment law required.

Licenses & Certifications
  • Active JD and bar admission in relevant jurisdiction(s).

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Strong leadership and collaboration skills.

  • Process- and project-management orientation.

  • Ability to partner with business leaders to understand priorities and challenges.

  • Excellent communication and risk analysis capabilities.

Compensation Range: $175,500 - $243,828

Targeted Pay Range: $114,300.00 - $190,500.00. This is part of a competitive total rewards package that could include other components such as: incentive, equity and benefits. Individual pay is determined by a number of factors including experience, location, internal pay equity, and other relevant business considerations.
