Fleet Data Centers designs, builds and operates mega-scale data center campuses. Fleet provides its customers flexibility and predictability to meet their upside demand forecasts, addressing a key need in the market as traditional leased models are struggling to keep pace with the demand for new Cloud and AI infrastructure. Fleet is led by a team of industry veterans that have already made a lasting imprint on the evolution of global digital infrastructure and are committed and uniquely capable of upleveling data center development scale and operations in the face of rising demand. Fleet is well positioned to bring in-house design, engineering and operational capabilities to collaborate with customers on tailored solutions for campuses of 500MW+. This unique model enables Fleet to provide the world’s largest and most sophisticated customers a seamless extension of their own data center fleets with constant access to design innovation.

Fleet Data Center is seeking a dedicated Customer Engineering Director for a single named customer account. Acting as the customer's primary point of entry into Fleet and their internal advocate, this individual will own the product definition, manage the Engineering Change Request (ECR) process, and pursue new expansion opportunities for that account—dedicating approximately 80% of their time to it. The remaining ~20% is a shared responsibility across the Director-level team to support broader company growth by delivering solution pitches and pursuing deals with new accounts. This position is critical to Fleet's "hire ahead" model, ensuring dedicated, expert technical leadership is in place to support each customer we onboard as Tract Capital scales its digital infrastructure footprint.

How will you make a difference?

Account Ownership

  • Serve as the key technical point of contact for the assigned account, fully owning the relationship.
  • Become fluent in the customer's organizational chart, understanding both the technical goals and the internal dynamics of key decision-makers.
  • Develop and produce the product definition associated with the lease for new opportunities.
  • Act as the primary point of entry for post-lease Engineering Change Requests (ECRs), coordinating with the customer and internal Fleet engineering teams to bridge new requirements.
  • Manage and qualify customer needs by effectively reviewing requests and separating critical "must-haves" from "nice-to-haves."

Solution Development

  • Attain fluency in the capacity needs of the assigned account, working seamlessly with the customer and internal engineering to develop tailored solutions.
  • Partner with Tract and TCM Behind-the-Meter (BTM) teams, as well as engineering Technical Program Management (TPM) teams, to align delivery solutions and timelines with customer expectations.
  • Collaborate across customer engineering domains (compute, GPU, storage, and networking) to align the delivery solution for fit-out with end-customer objectives.
  • Lead internally through influence to drive and define product requirements, navigating scenarios where customer needs may diverge from the internally planned state.

Product Strategy

  • Serve as the internal advocate for the customer, providing continuous feedback to the business on evolving customer needs and assisting Fleet leadership in adapting the product roadmap.
  • Influence all areas of the TCM product ecosystem that feed into the Fleet-delivered solution, including Tract land, power solutions, and internally delivered products.

Lead Generation & Growth

  • Contribute to the development of lead-generation content.
  • Deliver compelling solution pitches to prospective new accounts as part of the shared, team-wide new-business effort.

Required Qualifications

  • BS in a technical field strongly preferred (Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Civil Engineering).
  • 10+ years in a technical function, with a proven track record of influencing technical direction and developing solutions.
  • Must be fluent in AI data center design and development. While technical depth in a core area (e.g., liquid cooling, power delivery, network architecture) is a strong plus, the ability to navigate requirements across all core domains impacting solution delivery is required.
  • Strong understanding of permitting, data center design, operations, power delivery for AI data centers, and both liquid and air-cooling strategies.
  • Understanding of AI workloads and network architecture to effectively anticipate needs and advocate from the customer's perspective.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Dedicated experience within a data center developer or end user strongly preferred. Acceptable backgrounds include working in a technical role at a data center developer or as a technical leader within an end customer. Customer-facing experience is a strong plus.
  • An advanced degree is a plus but not required.

Core Skills & Competencies

  • Leadership & Communication: Strong blend of high EQ and technical depth, coupled with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Influence & Execution: "Can-do" mindset with the ability to shape thinking across the customer, internal delivery, and commercial teams; capable of tactfully driving urgency with customers to close deals and advancing ECRs to closure.
  • Change Management: Demonstrated track record of structuring change management solutions for complex projects and making processes work effectively for the business.
  • Storytelling: Ability to effectively shape and articulate the Fleet and broader TCM value proposition during lead generation.

Location: Remote

Travel Requirement: Regular travel required (25–30%).

Expected Salary Range: $180,000 - $225,00 Base Salary + Discretionary Bonus.
