Albert helps chemists change the world by building technology that understands how they work. As chemists ourselves, we know what it’s like when software doesn’t work the way you do — stuck with systems built by people who never spent a day at the bench. That’s why we created Albert OS, the first AI-native operating system for materials science, designed to remove every obstacle between curiosity and discovery.

We are looking for an ambitious and results-driven Director of Data Products to join our growing team. This role, with a focus on defining and building Albert’s data products portfolio, will play a key part in transforming proprietary chemical and materials science datasets into commercially valuable, scalable products that serve customers directly and power capabilities across Albert’s broader platform.

If you are passionate about cutting-edge technology and thrive in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment, we want to hear from you.

What you'll do

Strategy & Delivery

  • Define and own Albert’s data product strategy and roadmap, identifying the highest-value opportunities to transform proprietary datasets into standalone products and embedded capabilities that drive revenue and customer outcomes.
  • Lead the evolution of our datasets to a governed, productized data ecosystem — establishing canonical, single-source-of-truth golden data assets that serve as the foundation for Albert’s AI, and workflow products.
  • Define monetization models for data products, partnering with go-to-market teams to identify target customer segments, craft value propositions, and bring new data products to market.
  • Own the full product lifecycle for data products — from discovery and definition through launch, iteration, and ongoing optimization — with clear accountability for adoption, impact, and performance metrics.

Execution & Collaboration

  • Own and evolve the data pipeline function — including sourcing, aggregation, ingestion, cleaning, and harmonization of global data sources — partnering with Platform Engineering and Data Architecture to ensure reliability, scalability, and enterprise-grade data quality.
  • Partner with AI, ML, and data engineering teams to define data requirements and shape how systems are built to support product goals, including feeding Albert’s agentic and intelligence layers with data assets.
  • Manage external data supplier and partnership relationships — including premium data providers, data scraping services, and licensing agreements — evaluating, negotiating, and integrating third-party sources to expand and enrich Albert’s proprietary datasets.
  • Define how customers’ own proprietary data can be securely used alongside Albert-managed datasets.

Leadership & Impact

  • Serve as the company-wide authority on data products — shaping executive-level decisions on data strategy, influencing adjacent product teams, and ensuring a cohesive cross-functional approach that connects data, product, and commercial priorities.
  • Engage directly with customers to surface unmet needs and translate insights into product features, enhancements, and roadmap priorities; represent Albert at industry conferences and client meetings as a thought leader in data-driven R&D.
  • Establish and evolve product development practices across the team, including roadmap planning, backlog management, agile delivery, and cross-functional coordination.

You will have

  • 8+ years of product management experience, with meaningful time spent building and scaling data products in enterprise SaaS or vertical industry environments.
  • Proven track record of turning raw data assets into differentiated products or revenue-generating capabilities.
  • Deep understanding of modern data ecosystems — including pipelines, architectures, ingestion, transformation, harmonization, and governance — with sufficient technical depth to partner credibly with data and engineering teams.
  • Experience managing third-party data licensing, supplier relationships, and partnerships.
  • Strong user research instincts and the ability to translate between technical complexity and clear product direction and business value.
  • Demonstrated ability to define monetization models and drive commercial outcomes from data products.
  • Comfortable owning an ambiguous, nascent capability area — discovering current assets, presenting a compelling vision, and building from the ground up.
  • Proven ability to balance product vision with operational rigor — ensuring data pipelines are reliable, scalable, and production-grade
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; able to engage with technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Collaborative mindset with the ability to work effectively across teams and time zones.

Key competencies

Systems Thinking: Ability to visualize how data assets, pipelines, products, and platforms connect — and design ecosystems that create compounding value across the organization.

Grit: Self-starter and persistent problem solver; comfortable building from the ground up in ambiguous, high-stakes environments with limited precedent.

Leadership: Ability to define the direction of a functional area, align cross-functional stakeholders, and drive initiatives to completion with influence rather than authority.

Innovator: Passionate about unlocking new value from data — identifying monetization opportunities, designing novel product experiences, and staying ahead of industry trends.

Adaptability: Comfortable operating in a dynamic, evolving product and company environment where priorities shift and new information changes the path forward.

Empathy: Deep curiosity about how customers work and what they actually need; translates user and market insight into product decisions with clarity and rigor.

Why Albert?

We have a huge impact. Albert is a growing team with a global reach. We’re building toward a future where discovery feels like exploration, not administration. Where chemists can pursue their most ambitious ideas without friction.

We love our global team. Albert’s home-base is in the California Bay Area, but we have multiple offices and employees sprinkled around the globe: India, Germany and Japan. In fact, over 50% of our employees work outside of California. An international remote culture is in our DNA.

We care about you. Albert works hard to create a positive environment for our employees, and we think your life outside of work is important too. We work hard and we play hard.

We value diversity. Growing and maintaining our inclusive and diverse team matters to us. We are committed to being a company where our employees feel comfortable bringing their authentic selves to work and have the ability to be successful — every day.

We’re always looking for humble, sharp, and creative folks to join the Albert team. If you think you might be a fit, please apply.
