About The RoleWe’re seeking a Director of Engineering to lead teams building technology supporting consignors who sell their goods with The Real Real - and all of our employees who support them such as Luxury Managers, Sales, Business Development, and our retail stores!
In this role, you’ll use technology to create innovative and intuitive experiences across our website, mobile apps, backend services, and internal applications. You’ll streamline consignor operations, and work with business stakeholders to accelerate our ever-growing volume. You’ll own our Salesforce implementation and technical strategy. You will be exposed to the latest technology, a data-driven culture, while surrounded by a friendly, helpful team. These technical challenges are at the core of The RealReal’s business and this leader will have a significant impact on the company’s development roadmap and business success.
This role reports to the VP of Engineering and will be fully remote.

What You Get To Do Everyday

  • Lead and manage an organization of engineers.

  • Mentor and develop your engineers and engineering managers.

  • Lead the TheRealReal’s technical strategy for consignors and employees who support them.

  • Work with your teams to prioritize and scope engineering investments.

  • Guide the technical strategy for customer-facing features related to consignors and increasing supply.

  • Guide the technical strategy for our Salesforce instance, partnering with business stakeholders to optimize and increase the value of the platform.

  • Partner with product, business, and operations stakeholders on roadmaps, timelines, and technical strategy.

  • Partner with senior engineering leadership to set standards and technical vision.

  • Occasionally travel to meet with employees, customers, and stakeholders.

What You Bring To The Role

Minimum Requirements:

  • 10+ years of experience as a software engineer or technologist

  • 5+ years of management experience, with at least 2+ years managing managers

  • Experience building and developing high performing engineering teams

  • Strong understanding of cloud native, distributed, service oriented systems and applications

  • Strong understanding of web-app performance fundamentals and related dev tools

  • Strong understanding of distributed systems design

Preferred Requirements:

  • Computer Science degree or equivalent experience

  • Prior e-commerce experience

  • Prior experience with Salesforce 

  • Strong database fundamentals and experience with MySQL or Postgresql

  • Experience with Elixir, Ruby

The expected salary range for this role is $241,288.00-$271,449.00. To determine starting pay we carefully consider a variety of factors, including primary work location and an evaluation of a candidate’s skills, experience, market demands, and internal parity. Additionally, salary is just one component of TRR’s total rewards package. Depending on role, employees may also be eligible for a bonus program, incentive pay and benefits.
