We’ve created the first FDA authorized at-home cervical cancer screening. We’re replacing the in-office pap smear with a cervical cancer screening that is comfortable, convenient, and designed for women. Teal Health’s solution includes a patented Teal Wand collection device and a modern telehealth platform to make it easy for women to speak with a doctor, screen at home and understand their results.

Our Values:

We boldly champion the future women deserve. And we do this through our values, which are to elevate women, expect exceptional, and learning, every day. The Teal team lives our values and uses them to guide our decisions when building Teal.

Why We Are Hiring For This Role:

Teal is hiring a Director of Finance to own and execute the day-to-day financial operations of a fast-growing, early-stage women’s health company. The ideal candidate has an entrepreneurial spirit, and thrives at the intersection of strategic growth and operational excellence. You will be responsible for building and running core finance functions including accounting, tax, billing, claims workflows, payroll, and finance systems. You will be the architect of our financial engine, ensuring that as we scale, our fiscal health remains robust, transparent, and compliant. And you will work closely with the Leadership Team developing Strategy to ensure every dollar we spend is an investment in championing the future women deserve.

Role Overview:
  • Strategic Budgeting & Forecasting: Lead the annual budgeting process and monthly forecasting. Provide financial operational support to internal teams. Establish the company’s financial reporting cadence: business performance reviews, variance analysis, KPIs.

  • Accounting & Vendor Management: Act as the primary point of contact for third-party accounting firms. You will oversee the closing of books, accounts payable, financial reporting, and the accuracy of our general ledger.

  • Cash & Treasury Management: Monitor and manage our cash accounts, maintain banking relationships, optimizing and forecasting cash flow, and ensuring liquidity to support rapid innovation and calculated risks.

  • Payroll & People Ops Finance: Own the end-to-end payroll process, ensuring our team is paid accurately and on time, while managing benefits-related financial flows.

  • Compliance, Tax & Insurance: Ensure Teal remains "Exceptional" in its regulatory standing. This includes managing all tax filings (Nexus, income tax, R&D credits), corporate insurance renewals, and staying ahead of healthcare-related financial regulations.

  • Audit & Internal Controls: Develop and maintain rigorous internal controls to mitigate risk and ensure data integrity across all financial systems.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • 8-10+ years of experience in Finance or FP&A roles, with at least 2-4 years experience in a startup (Series C or earlier), ideally within healthcare

  • Strong understanding of payer billing and claims management workflows

  • Hands-on payroll management experience

  • CPA preferred - Strong grasp of accounting fundamentals and financial controls

  • Detail-oriented and highly organized

  • Strong understanding of revenue cycle management, cost-of-goods modeling, supply chain dynamics, and long development cycles

  • Experience working directly with founders/CTOs/CEOs and presenting financial insights in clear, concise narratives

  • Ability to operate in ambiguity and build processes, tools, and systems from scratch

  • High integrity and flawless ownership of numbers — you are the source of truth

  • Excellent written and verbal communication

  • Alignment with our mission, vision, and virtues

  • Comfortable operating in a fast-paced, constantly evolving environment

  • Based in the San Francisco Bay Area

Preferred:

  • Analytical, structured, and rigorous.

  • Able to zoom between high-level strategy and detailed spreadsheets without losing coherence

  • A builder who can quickly create and implement mature financial processes in a startup environment

  • Comfortable evaluating operational and technical decisions through an economic lens

  • Someone who can say no when the company needs it, and articulate the tradeoff clearly

  • Calm under time pressure and persistent when driving cross-functional alignment

  • 401(k)
