IEQ Capital is a Registered Investment Advisor seeking to transform traditional wealth management. Our quest is to integrate the Intellectual and Emotional Quotient, driven by a values-oriented culture that fosters connection and collaboration with our clients. We are an independent, predominantly employee-owned company, adhering to the standard to put our clients' interests first. We focus our efforts on helping clients meet their investment objectives without the distractions and limitations that can arise within much larger organizations.
The Role
We are seeking a Director, Financial Planning to join our Foster City-based Family Office team. This individual will own end-to-end delivery of comprehensive financial plans for ultra-high-net-worth individuals and families, using eMoney as the primary planning platform. The role blends deep planning expertise with strong quantitative capability and requires the ability to operate independently, gather inputs efficiently, build defensible assumptions, model scenarios, and present clear recommendations to clients.
The ideal candidate has meaningful experience delivering financial plans to UHNW clients across complex ownership structures (entities and trusts), strong judgment around planning assumptions, and a track record of translating analysis into practical next steps. This role is well suited for someone who enjoys working directly with clients and their advisory teams and who can run a planning process with minimal oversight.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
eMoney Planning and Delivery
- Lead client discovery and data gathering using a structured intake process (balance sheet, cash flows, goals, insurance, estate documents, tax inputs as needed).
- Coordinate directly with internal IEQ team members and external advisors (CPA, estate attorney, insurance consultants) to source inputs, validate assumptions, and resolve open items.
- Build and maintain comprehensive eMoney plans with high data integrity, clear documentation, and consistent methodologies.
- Develop scenario analyses to quantify tradeoffs, mitigate risks, and capture opportunities. Examples include:
- Retirement and spending sustainability
- Liquidity events and major cash flow changes
- Equity compensation modeling and planning
- Concentrated stock diversification and tax-aware planning considerations
- Charitable planning, including CRT modeling where applicable
- Estate planning implications and wealth transfer strategy comparisons (as planning scenarios, not legal drafting)
- Insurance funding and policy sustainability scenarios
- Translate outputs into clear recommendations, decision points, and an actionable next-step plan for the client and advisory team.
- Prepare client-ready deliverables (summaries, meeting materials, plan views) that make planning outputs easy to understand and implement.
- Deliver plans directly to clients, lead plan review meetings, and drive alignment on next steps with the full client team.
- Maintain plans over time through updates tied to life events, market changes, tax law changes, and implementation progress. Establish cadence and standards for refreshes.
Process and Quality Control
- Build repeatable workflows for intake, plan construction, internal review, and client delivery. Create templates and checklists to reduce rework and improve consistency.
- Establish and enforce QA standards, including input validation, reasonableness checks, and scenario sensitivity testing.
- Serve as an internal resource on eMoney best practices, scenario design, and planning process execution.
Financial Planning and ad hoc Models
- Respond to discrete financial planning questions from clients related to large purchase analysis, retirement planning (including rollover analysis), equity compensation, education funding, and gift tax/income tax planning scenarios.
- Be comfortable using either Excel or eMoney depending on the use case.
- Work closely with internal resources, including wealth planning, income tax planning, and leverage planning strategists, as appropriate for complex clients.
Qualifications:
Required
- 7+ years of experience delivering comprehensive financial planning for UHNW clients (RIA, multifamily office, private bank, or similar).
- Demonstrated hands-on mastery of eMoney, including building plans, running scenario analyses, and delivering plans to clients. Experience owning the workflow end to end is strongly preferred.
- Professional designation demonstrating mastery of financial planning concepts.
- CFP required unless the candidate holds a comparable designation such as CFA, CPA/PFS, or ChFC.
- The candidate must be able to read estate planning documents and incorporate implications into planning assumptions and scenarios.
- Experience using AI in a financial planning context is required. Experience building AI tools, including custom GPTs, is a plus.
- Strong quantitative skills and modeling judgment. Ability to build, defend, and explain assumptions and sensitivities.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and documentation skills with high attention to detail and data accuracy.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to translate complex planning topics into clear client decisions.
- High ownership mindset with a proven ability to operate independently, prioritize effectively, and drive work to completion with minimal guidance.
Success Metrics (first 90-180 days)
