Position Summary

We are looking for a Director, People Business Partner who shows up as a bold disruptor with a kind heart, someone who brings sharp strategy and genuine warmth in equal measure, and who understands that the secret to our success in the marketplace starts with how deeply we invest in our e.l.f.z.

You will be a trusted advisor to e.l.f. Beauty leaders and business functions across the organization, an essential resource for leadership, people managers, and employees alike, helping drive impactful people operations, a differentiated employee experience, and a culture of belonging at every stage of the employee lifecycle. You will operate with Zero Distance, not from above or behind the business, but right inside it, embedding deeply within your client groups, translating their goals and challenges into people strategies that fuel growth, strengthen organizational health, and bring our culture to life in ways that are unmistakably e.l.f.

This position reports to the Chief Human Resources Officer and will be based out of our Oakland, CA HQ, with a hybrid working model.

Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the primary People partner to multiple business functions, building trusted, consultative relationships with senior leaders and their teams across e.l.f. Beauty's portfolio of brands
  • Cocreate the People Business Partner function with the CHRO at e.l.f. Beauty globally, sharing best practices, helping define the operating model and elevate the team
  • Lead a team of global People Partners across geographies, specifically EMEA, India and China through influence as the functional leader, collaborator and partner
  • Provide expert coaching and guidance on all aspects of the employee lifecycle including high performance teaming, organization & talent management, career pathing, leveling, compensation, inclusion and belonging and employee relations
  • Deliver global, high-impact people programs around  organization and talent development, performance management, culture, team member engagement, and leadership development that are practical, scalable, and aligned to business priorities
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to support your client groups and partner with leadership on organizational design, workforce planning, and right-sizing efforts to build capable, agile teams
  • Partner with leaders to assess the capability, capacity, and development needs of their teams, and co-create plans that address gaps and unlock growth
  • Use people data and analytics to identify trends, surface risks, and shape proactive strategies, translating metrics like attrition, engagement, and promotion rates into compelling, actionable narratives for senior leaders
  • Act as the central point of contact for the People team between the business and Talent Acquisition, Total Rewards, Learning & Development and People Operations advocating for programs that reflect the real needs of our employees and managers
  • Counsel managers on employee relations matters; partner with Legal to investigate and resolve workplace issues with sound judgment and a consistent application of policy
  • Provide policy guidance and ensure ongoing compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations.

Requirements:

  • 15–20+ years of progressive HR experience, with significant depth as a Global People Business Partner supporting complex, fast-moving organizations — ideally in consumer goods, beauty, or a similarly high-growth, purpose-driven space
  • Passion for all things people-related and a genuine commitment to solving people problems in ways that are practical, human, and scalable
  • Deep expertise across the full HR landscape: talent management, organizational design, employee relations, total rewards and workforce planning
  • Proven experience with various HR technology platforms such as BambooHR, Culture Amp, Lattice, Lever, and ADP
  • High emotional intelligence, a warm and direct communication style, a coach at heart with the natural ability to build trust quickly with people at every level of an organization
  • Strong organizational skills, excellent follow-through, and the ability to manage multiple competing priorities without losing sight of the details that matter
  • A natural relationship builder who establishes credibility with leaders quickly and earns trust through expertise, empathy, and results
  • Strong analytical instincts comfortable using data to tell a story, identify a risk, or make a case to senior leadership
  • Exceptional communication skills, able to move fluidly between strategic conversations with executive stakeholders and meaningful one-on-one conversations with individual contributors
  • Intellectually curious with strong learning agility; you stay close to trends and best practices in the people space and bring those insights back to the business
  • Experience supporting HR through acquisitions, integrations, or significant organizational change is a strong plus
