The Director, Platform Engineering, is the senior engineering leader responsible for the architecture, deliver, operations, reliability, and scalability of the company’s enterprise Data Lakehouse platform. This role leads teams responsible for platform engineering and technical operations, ensuring the Data Lakehouse platform provides a robust foundation for analytics, reporting, AI/ML, and data-driven business capabilities. 

 

Working closely with Product, Data Analytics, Security, and Infrastructure leaders, this individual provides technical leadership and engineering execution for platform initiatives while driving operational excellence, platform adoption, and continuous modernization of the enterprise data ecosystem. This leader bridges business and technology, aligning platform capabilities with enterprise data strategy. 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead and grow a cross-functional team of engineers, architects, and data professionals 

  • Partner with business units to identify data platform requirements and translate into platform capabilities 

  • Own platform SLAs, uptime, cost management, and quality standards 

  • Drive adoption of platform best practices across data engineering, governance, and DevOps 

  • Oversee vendor relationships, licensing, and cloud provider partnerships (AWS, Azure, GCP) 

  • Ensure platform compliance with data privacy, security, and regulatory requirements (GDPR, CCPA, HIPAA) 

  • Champion a culture of data democratization and self-service analytics 

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE

  • 12+ years in data engineering, architecture, or platform leadership roles

  • 5+ years in a director or senior leadership position managing large technical teams 

  • Proven experience delivering enterprise-scale data platforms (Databricks, Snowflake, Delta Lake, Apache Iceberg) 

  • Strong knowledge of cloud infrastructure (AWS, Azure, or GCP) and modern data stack 

  • Experience with data governance frameworks, data mesh, and data product thinking 

  • Executive communication skills with the ability to influence cross-functional stakeholders 

  • MBA or advanced degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field preferred 

  • Experience with budget management and P&L ownership 

SKILLS

  • Familiarity with AI/ML platform enablement and MLOps 

  •  Certifications: AWS/Azure/GCP Data Architect, Databricks Platform Architect

The base salary range for this position in is $150K-$200K/yr; however, base pay offered may vary depending on location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. A discretionary incentive program may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical and other benefits, dependent on full-time employment status.
