The Role
We are looking for a Director of Procurement to own commercial relationships with equipment vendors, contractors, and other service providers across the supply chain for our renewable energy projects.  This includes identifying vendors, negotiating preferred terms and prices, developing and implementing our procurement strategy, ensuring supply availability, and supporting engineering efforts to standardize designs of distributed energy systems. 
 
This role will report to the Chief Operations Officer and be based in the Northeast US or California.  

Key responsibilities include:

  • Define and implement the overall procurement strategy, strategic sourcing, and supplier selection, aimed at optimizing costs and operational efficiencies.
  • Develop Procurement policies, supplier selection procedures, and implementation of sourcing strategies, and conduct supplier selection processes to identify the best sourcing options.
  • Collaborate with Scale’s engineering team to understand technical requirements for equipment and other components, including battery energy storage, solar PV, generators and generator components, inverters, switchgear, and other balance of system components
  • Work with Scale’s project delivery team to understand construction and engineering requirements for projects, and with Scale’s asset management team to understand third-party operations and maintenance service requirements
  • Identify suppliers with conforming equipment specifications and/or capabilities, appropriate quality controls, and bankable performance history
  • Negotiate terms and pricing with suppliers and drive procurement activities utilizing standard framework agreements to facilitate purchasing activities
  • Develop and execute sourcing strategies to ensure continuity of supply while managing risks across the supply chain
  • Work with engineering to standardize system designs, implementation, and operations, considering supply chain risks, costs, etc.
  • Guide internal teams to resolve cross-functional issues related to equipment, construction, and operations
  • Track and analyze vendor performance, establish and maintain relevant KPI’s, monitor and manage relevant metrics, including spend analytics, operational efficiencies, supplier performance, warranty recovery, and benefit capture from procurement activities.
  • Identify and execute initiatives to increase procurement process efficiency & effectiveness, including implementation of procurement software solutions 

The ideal candidate:

  • 10+ years of supply chain development and/or strategic sourcing experience
  • Deep working knowledge of the renewable energy market and vendor landscape, pricing, terms, and trends
  • Experience vetting vendors for quality and experience
  • Comfortable presenting to and negotiating with local distributors as well as high-level executives
  • Solid knowledge and demonstrated understanding of sourcing and/or purchasing leadership, vendor relations, procurement, sourcing, distribution, and tracking program savings and supplier service KPIs
  • Ability to influence internal and external teams, with strong negotiation skills
  • Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to identify and manage risks
  • Ability to communicate with diverse stakeholders, including engineering, on technical subject matters
  • Background in mechanical, electrical, or industrial engineering is helpful. MBA is a plus
  • Experience with distributed energy resources is a plus
