Join us as a Director Product Strategy - Assortment and this is some of what you and your team will be doing:

The Director of Product Strategy for Assortment owns the what and the why for RELEX’s Assortment domain as an end-to-end business process within the broader merchandising strategy. They are commercially accountable for the domain’s ARR contribution, growth trends, win/loss patterns, and competitive positioning, while ensuring Assortment is defined not just as a product capability but as a strategic lever that connects customer planning, pricing, promotions, space, supply chain, and commercial execution. This is not a delivery role; the Director’s job is to define the problem space for end-to-end Assortment so clearly that engineering teams can operate with high autonomy within it, while also aligning strategically with other Product Strategy Directors to ensure Assortment is coherently integrated into RELEX’s wider merchandising vision and cross-domain value proposition.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

Outcomes owned — answerable if something goes wrong across the end-to-end Assortment process and its contribution to broader merchandising outcomes:

  • Ensure RELEX is investing in the highest-value Assortment problems, evidenced by a prioritised strategy and explicit problem statements across assortment decisions, continuity and seasonal planning, merchandise financial planning, localisation, lifecycle management, and the upstream and downstream processes that shape merchandising outcomes.
  • Drive measurable ARR growth and retention in Assortment by ensuring RELEX’s assortment capabilities support stronger end-to-end merchandising decisions and deliver clear customer value across revenue, margin, shopper relevance, and inventory productivity.
  • Position RELEX as a recognised authority in Assortment within a broader merchandising strategy, evidenced by stronger analyst, prospect, and customer recognition of differentiated value across assortment, planning, localisation, lifecycle, and connected merchandising workflows.
  • Ensure investment decisions and product priorities in Assortment are consistently informed by documented customer evidence, retailer workflow insight, and market signals, with explicit consideration of how assortment decisions interact with adjacent merchandising capabilities and processes.
  • Define and maintain a clear RELEX Assortment offering as part of a coherent merchandising strategy, evidenced by current positioning, packaging, pricing logic, and differentiation that are understood and consistently used across Product, Sales, GTM, and customer-facing teams while providing a flexible commercial model that takes account of broader RELEX merchandising deals and aligns with the greater customer value created through larger, cross-domain engagements.
  • Ensure Assortment ARR contribution, retention performance, and competitive win rates are tracked, reviewed, and reported at least quarterly to the VP of Product, including visibility into how assortment strategy contributes to broader merchandising outcomes.
  • Create strategic alignment with other Product Strategy Directors so that RELEX’s merchandising strategy is coherent across adjacent domains, with shared assumptions, joined-up priorities, and clear decision-making across cross-functional product boundaries.
  • Ensure all Promotions investment proposals are supported by structured customer evidence, workflow insight, and market need before recommendation for Engineering commitment, particularly where decisions affect broader merchandising strategy, adjacent domains, or enterprise-wide commercial workflows.

KEY MEASURES OF SUCCESS

  • Sustained ARR growth and strong retention performance for Assortment, with clear contribution to broader merchandising outcomes
  • Improvement in competitive win rates and clearer differentiation in deals where Assortment is positioned as part of a joined-up merchandising strategy
  • Evidence that product investments are grounded in validated customer problems, merchandising workflows, and market demand across the end-to-end assortment process
  • Clear and current positioning for Assortment within RELEX’s wider merchandising strategy, understood by Product, Sales, GTM, and customer-facing teams
  • Strong cross-functional strategic alignment across Product Strategy Directors, resulting in more coherent priorities and decisions across merchandising domains

We’re looking for:

SKILLS & COMPETENCIES

  • Deep expertise in Assortment as an end-to-end merchandising process, including assortment strategy, continuity and seasonal planning, merchandise financial planning alignment, localization, lifecycle management, and their connections to adjacent merchandising capabilities
  • Commercially literate — understands how Assortment contributes to wider merchandising outcomes, including growth, margin, shopper relevance, inventory productivity, and competitive differentiation
  • Strategic systems thinker — able to connect assortment decisions to broader merchandising workflows and align direction across multiple product strategy areas
  • Technically literate — able to engage credibly with engineers and product teams building the capabilities, workflows, and decision logic that support end-to-end merchandising strategy
  • Deep knowledge of the competitive landscape for Assortment and merchandising strategy, including legacy merchandising suites, specialist assortment providers, and adjacent retail planning platforms
  • Strong collaborator and influencer — able to build alignment with other Product Strategy Directors and senior stakeholders across Product, Engineering, Sales, and Customer Success
  • Opinionated but not precious: sets clear strategic direction for Assortment within the wider merchandising strategy and helps teams make better joined-up decisions across product boundaries
