Building the Quality Infrastructure for Integrated Hardware and Software at Scale
Rockbot is an omnichannel media platform powering in-venue experiences across music, TV, digital signage, and advertising - spanning nearly every industry from independent restaurants to large national brands. Our integrated products connect physical hardware (sensors, streaming media devices, A/V systems) to cloud-based analytics and services, which means quality cannot be an afterthought.
As we scale our platform and customer base, the bar for product reliability and performance must rise with it. We are investing in a more rigorous, data-driven approach to quality - one that treats QA as an engineering discipline, not a final checkpoint.
We are hiring a Director, Quality Assurance to lead our global quality strategy and build the systems, processes, and culture required to validate complex integrated products at scale.
This is a pivotal builder role. The ideal candidate has moved beyond simple pass/fail testing and brings both firmware/hardware validation expertise and modern software automation leadership — someone who views QA as a strategic function and a competitive advantage.
What You'll Do
Define the QA Vision
You believe quality must be designed in — not bolted on.
- Define and execute a comprehensive QA vision that encompasses hardware reliability, embedded systems, and cloud applications
- Set the standard for what "high quality" means across Rockbot's integrated product suite — from edge devices to cloud analytics
- Drive a "Shift Left" philosophy, integrating quality practices into the earliest stages of design and development
Automate at Scale
You build frameworks that outlast individual engineers.
- Transition legacy manual processes into a robust, scalable automation framework
- Own the selection and evolution of automation tooling — including frameworks such as Playwright, PyTest, Selenium, and Appium
- Ensure test coverage spans both hardware compatibility and software logic, operating reliably in CI/CD pipelines
- Leverage cutting-edge AI methodologies to accelerate test automation efforts
Integrate Quality into Engineering Rhythms
You operate inside engineering, not downstream of it.
- Direct the integration of automated hardware and software tests into CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins, GitLab CI, GitHub Actions)
- Ensure every commit is verified for both software logic and hardware compatibility — including automated deployment to edge devices
- Partner with Hardware Engineering, DevOps, and Product Management to align quality goals with manufacturing timelines and software sprints
Drive Metrics and Accountability
You measure what matters and make quality visible.
- Establish KPIs across bug leakage, MTBF (Mean Time Between Failures), and test coverage
- Provide transparent, actionable reporting to executive leadership — translating technical risk into business impact
- Build disciplined reporting cadences and raise the bar on operational rigor across the QA function
Who You Are
- Experience: 10+ years in QA/Validation roles, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership position (Director or Head of QA)
- Hardware Proficiency: Proven track record testing physical products, including familiarity with streaming media and A/V systems
- Software Expertise: Deep understanding of modern automation frameworks (Playwright, PyTest, Selenium, Appium) and languages (Python, C++, or Java)
