Director of Pricing & Portfolio Optimization

🌍 About the role

Wander is looking for a Director of Pricing & Portfolio Optimization to build and lead a new business unit within our Marketing organization. This unit will be responsible for ensuring that every Wander home is competitively prices and as desirable—and as profitable—as possible. You’ll lead our pricing team and build a system that continuously audits, evaluates, and improves the performance of every property in our portfolio.

This is a high-impact leadership role that blends data, automation, creativity, and strategy. You'll own the bottom-up revenue layer of our demand generation strategy—maximizing performance per listing to complement our top-down marketing campaigns.

You’ll work at the intersection of pricing strategy, machine intelligence and operational rigor to create systems that assess and improve desirability across hundreds of listings monthly, ultimately helping guests say “yes” faster and more often.

✨ What you’ll do
  • Lead the pricing team and define the pricing strategy across our growing portfolio of homes. You'll also oversee listing optimization, dynamic pricing, and guest confidence.

  • Design a scalable audit framework to evaluate listing desirability—covering images, pricing, amenities, policies, reviews, and more.

  • Collaborate with a dedicated engineer to train AI models that continuously score and flag listings needing improvement.

  • Collaborate with listings and operations teams to drive amenity upgrades and implement content improvements portfolio-wide.

  • Oversee pricing strategy, including competitive benchmarking including things like length-of-stay and last-minute discounts, and policy friction audits (e.g., pet rules, cleaning fees, calendar access).

  • Develop tools and incentives for owners to opt into more competitive pricing in exchange for better visibility and demand.

  • Drive initiatives to increase trust and social proof, including review sentiment monitoring and guest hesitation handling.

  • Work with engineering to automate as much of this pipeline as possible—from identifying gaps to triggering updates.

  • Own performance metrics at the listing level and portfolio level, using AI-driven scoring and daily optimization loops.

🛠️ The toolkit you’ll use
  • Internal & External Data – market comps, guest behavior, funnel conversion data

  • AI & Automation – develop systems that score, audit, and flag listings autonomously

  • Collaborative Ops – cross-functional partnership with engineering, operations, marketing, and design

  • Builder Mentality – you’ll create internal products, tools, and dashboards from the ground up

👥 Who you’ll work with
  • You (Director of Pricing & Portfolio Optimization) — Business unit leader and cross-functional strategist overseeing the pricing team

  • Software Engineer — Full-time engineering partner to build automation tools

  • Listing Team — Deep collaboration on listing content and execution

  • Operations — For amenity enhancements and policy alignment

  • Marketing & Product — To influence demand-gen strategy and platform improvements

  • The role sits in Marketing and reports directly to the CMO

✅ Requirements
  • Experience leading pricing strategy at scale in hospitality, travel, or real estate

  • Proven success in building internal tools, systems, or frameworks from scratch

  • Comfort working with AI models, automation tools, and data analysis

  • Strong cross-functional leadership and stakeholder communication

  • Obsessive eye for detail across visual, copy, pricing, and product elements

  • Builder mindset with a bias for action and results

🌟 Bonus if you have
  • Experience at a marketplace, ideally in a startup environment

  • Familiarity with pricing algorithms or review sentiment analysis
