Summary / Objective
The Director, Software Engineering will lead the strategy and execution needed to make DNSid easy for developers to understand, adopt, and build with. This role owns the end-to-end developer distribution strategy, including leading a cross-functional team of engineers, advocates, writers, and designers; driving standards work; building a high-quality public developer presence through SDKs, documentation, and portals; and identifying high-leverage integration opportunities that create measurable adoption. Balancing strategic prioritization with hands-on technical leadership, this person will bridge the gap between technical standards and real-world developer adoption.
This role reports to VP, Engineering & Technical Architect.
What You'll Do
  • Own DNSid's developer-distribution strategy across integrations, evangelism, and content, prioritizing the work where agentic adoption can compound fastest
  • Build and lead the team: engineers, advocates, writers, and designers
  • Develop technical talent who can represent DNSid on stage and at conferences
  • Identify and prioritize the highest-impact integration and evangelism areas, sequencing the work so installs compound into measurable adoption signals
  • Drive standards work directly by pursuing endorsement from major players in high-leverage venues while keeping the protocol surface minimal for others to build on
  • Define and maintain the public developer presence, including docs, SDKs, sample apps, the GitHub org, and an AI- and human-friendly developer portal
  • Own the editorial quality bar across everything published. Hold everyone to the same standard
  • Generate measurable adoption signals that change how the partnership conversations open
  • Partner with engineering to ensure SDKs and APIs deliver an excellent developer experience with safe, clear defaults
  • Make sure what developers say changes the roadmap
  • Lead hiring, onboarding, mentoring, coaching, and performance management efforts to build high-performing teams, foster a collaborative environment, and consistently model Identity Digital's values
  • Actively models and promotes Identity Digital's core values through day-to-day interactions, leadership behaviors, and decision-making
  • Other duties as assigned

Who You Are / What You Bring
  • 15+ years of experience leading open source and developer relations initiatives
  • 10+ years hands on software engineering
  • 5+ years growing and managing teams
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field or equivalent experience
  • Proven leadership of developer relations or developer experience at a platform, infrastructure, or open-source organization
  • Track record building and running the developer-facing experience for a widely adopted technology, standard, or developer platform
  • Deep experience with technical documentation systems and developer-content strategy at scale
  • Ability to lead a team while staying close enough to the work to write code, fix docs, or demo an integration
  • Strong understanding of how open standards achieve developer adoption
  • Experience building and leading technical teams
  • Excellent written and verbal communication for developer audiences
  • Experience with a web/identity/protocol platform or an environment where adoption is tied to spec endorsement
  • Proven ability to hire, retain, and develop diverse talent while cultivating an inclusive, positive culture of excellence
  • Experienced in managing, leading, and developing diverse teams while promoting a collaborative and supportive work environment
  • Periodic travel (4-6 times/year) for conferences, developer events, and partner workshops
  • Ability to work across time zones as part of a global organization

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience taking an open standard or protocol to broad developer adoption across multiple distribution channels
  • Familiarity with the agentic-AI ecosystem (agent frameworks, MCP, AI-orchestration / multi-agent patterns, A2A) and identity/auth concepts
  • Hands-on experience with SDKs across multiple languages (TypeScript, Python, Go)
  • Track record sourcing and hiring technical talent from developer communities and conferences, beyond the usual recruiter pipeline
  • Background spanning both engineering management and developer evangelism

Physical Requirements
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times
