Job Summary & Responsibilities

The Director of SOX plays a pivotal role within the banking sector, responsible for supporting the organization’s compliance with the Sarbanes-Oxley Act (SOX) and ensuring the integrity, accuracy, and timeliness of external financial reporting. This position bridges the gap between finance, risk, and audit teams, helping safeguard the bank’s reputation and meet regulatory requirements.
Coordinate the preparation and review of external financial statements and disclosures to ensure compliance with U.S. GAAP and SOX requirements.
Design, implement, and monitor internal controls over financial reporting (ICFR) in accordance with SOX Section 404.
Support quarterly and annual SOX testing, including process documentation, control walkthroughs, and remediation of identified deficiencies.
Collaborate with internal and external auditors by providing requested documentation and addressing audit inquiries or findings.
Assess and document the impact of new accounting standards or regulatory changes on external reporting processes and controls.
Maintain current knowledge of banking regulations, SOX guidance, and industry best practices.
Assist in the preparation of management and board-level presentations regarding SOX compliance and control effectiveness.
Identify opportunities to enhance process efficiency, automation, and control environment within the external reporting function.

This position can work from any of our market locations throughout the Holding Company in North Carolina, Missouri, Oklahoma, Kansas, Florida, or Colorado.


Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field; CPA, CIA, or similar certification preferred.
10+ years of experience in external reporting, SOX compliance, or auditing within the banking or financial services industry.
Strong understanding of U.S. GAAP, SEC reporting requirements, and SOX Section 404.
Proficiency with financial reporting systems and internal controls frameworks (e.g., COSO).
Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively across functions in a fast-paced, regulated environment.
Preferred Skills:
Experience with process automation tools or data analytics platforms.
Project management skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
Familiarity with banking products, operations, and regulatory landscape.
Reporting Structure:
This position typically reports to the Director or Manager of External Reporting, SOX Compliance, or the Chief Financial Officer, depending on the organization’s structure.
