Who We Are

Coefficient is a VC-backed startup building the next generation of data software. The founders, Navneet & Tommy, are serial entrepreneurs whose last startup, Shopular, was backed by Y Combinator and Sequoia and acquired by Rakuten Ebates.

We started by turning spreadsheets into a live, connected layer on top of company data—bringing systems like Salesforce, HubSpot, and Snowflake directly into Google Sheets and Excel. Today, thousands of teams rely on Coefficient to access real-time data without IT.

Now, we’re taking the next step.

What We’re Building

Coefficient is evolving into an agentic data intelligence platform — where AI doesn’t just retrieve data, but understands it, reasons about it, and takes action.

At the core is a shared data world model: a unified, continuously updated understanding of a company’s data, business logic, and context. This allows our autonomous agents to operate with far more context than traditional tools—unlocking a fundamentally new way to work with data.

Instead of dashboards and one-off queries, we’re building AI agents that:

  • Develop context over time (memory + business rules)
  • Explore data and surface insights proactively
  • Execute workflows and make decisions
  • Generate complete, high-quality outputs (reports, dashboards, spreadsheets, scripts)

All powered by the real-time, production-grade data pipelines we’ve already built.

The shift is simple: from tools that show you data → to autonomous agents that do work with it.

Your Role

We’re looking for Product Engineers early in their career who operate with high agency, strong ownership, and deep curiosity.

This is not a scoped, ticket-driven role. You’ll work directly with the founders to define product direction, build core systems, and ship end-to-end experiences.

You might be a fit if you:

  • Take full ownership of problems—from idea to production
  • Are relentlessly curious and think from first principles
  • Move quickly, make decisions, and iterate without perfect specs
  • Care deeply about product quality, UX, and craft
  • Thrive in ambiguity and low-structure environments

Technical expectations:

  • 2–4 years of experience building production web applications
  • Proficiency in modern web stacks (e.g. TypeScript, React, Next.js, or similar)
  • Experience with backend systems and APIs (e.g. Node, Python, Flask, or similar)
  • Comfortable working with data-intensive applications and distributed systems
  • Ability to pick up new technologies quickly and move across the stack as needed
  • Solid understanding of performance, system design, and scalability
  • Experience building and shipping production systems

This is a hybrid in-office role in San Mateo, CA. We are looking for this person to be in-office three days a week with our team.

Bottom Line

We’re building toward a future where autonomous agents, powered by a shared data world model, can understand a business and execute work on its behalf. If you’re the kind of engineer who wants to build systems like that—and take real ownership in the process—you’ll do well here.
