As a Learning Assistant at Silicon Valley International School, you will collaborate closely with our diverse group of international teachers to support students in their early years. Your primary responsibility is to ensure the safety and social-emotional well-being of our students. As a Learning Assistant, you will operate within the framework of your job description and assignments, making decisions only within that context. Learning Assistants are required to maintain certifications as mandated by the school and/or Social Services, ensuring that all relevant certifications remain current.

This is an hourly, full-time, non-exempt role that comes with full benefits. You will report to the Director of Licensing and Enrichment Support. The hourly rate of pay is $30.07 (CO-1) to $40.52 (CO-23), depending on your relevant work experience and educational attainment. Additionally, the school offers an academic attainment bonus — $1,000 for a Bachelor’s Degree and $2,000 for a Master’s Degree — added to your regular hourly rate.

Responsibilities

  • Follow Social Services requirements and stay with students at all times.
  • Demonstrate ethical behavior and responsibility with regard to attendance and schedule.
  • Follow school policies, especially confidentiality, cross-cultural understanding, discipline, health, and safety.
  • Actively supervise lunch, recess, and the extended day program.
  • Promote an atmosphere of respect and collaboration.
  • Support the school’s philosophy and mission.
  • Address conflicts through proper channels.
  • Assist with administrative tasks, classroom organization, and preparation.
  • Lead small group activities as instructed.
  • Participate in in-service training and planning meetings.

Year-Round Work Schedule

As this position is classified as an academic year-round position, including designated faculty breaks and summer months, Learning Assistants are required to work six (6) of the nine (9) weeks of Mini Camp and/or Summer Camp each academic year.

During Mini Camp and Summer Camp, Learning Assistants will serve in the role of Camp Counselor. In this capacity, they are responsible for planning, organizing, and implementing age-appropriate activities and programs under the direction and supervision of the Director of Licensing & Enrichment Programs.

The Director of Licensing & Enrichment Programs will establish the camp themes and provide guidance and support in the development and coordination of camp activities. Learning Assistants may utilize the week preceding Mini Camp for planning and preparation. In addition, the Summer Camp schedule will include designated time each week for planning, preparation, and program coordination.
 

Qualifications

  • Native Speaker of Mandarin strongly preferred
  • Minimum 12 Early Childhood Education (ECE) units
  • Minimum 2 years of experience working with young children
  • French speakers are especially encouraged to apply
  • Experience with the Primary Years Program (PYP) of the International Baccalaureate (IB) preferred
