The Editorial Creative Director will lead the visual identity and creative strategy for Outside Magazine and digital editorial platforms. This role is responsible for overseeing design, photography, and illustration to ensure a cohesive and market-leading brand presence across all channels.

Within 1 month, you will: 
  • Onboard with the Editorial, Video, and Audience Development teams to understand current workflows.
  • Review existing brand assets, including magazine archives, web superfeatures, and newsletter designs.
  • Establish working relationships with production partners to ensure smooth operations and deadline compliance.
  • Assume ownership of the photo and design budget management processes as well as freelancer and photographer relationships, as needed.
Within 3 months, you will: 
  • Direct and ideate the visual approach for cover shoots and in-book features for the 2027 magazine cycle.
  • Spearhead visual design for web superfeatures using platforms like Ceros and Webflow.
  • Collaborate with Audience Development to create newsletter templates and social media assets for brand cohesion.
  • Lead the creation of branding badges for annual tentpoles like Travel Awards and Gear of the Year.
Within 6 months, you will: 
  • Launch a centralized photo hub/system for cross-brand sourcing from professional photographers.
  • Partner with the product team on comprehensive site design across the Outside Inc. network.
  • Integrate video assets into the standard editorial visual system.
  • Successfully design and launch a new line of Outside brand merchandise.
What YOU bring to Outside:  (Preferred Qualifications)
  • 8+ years proven experience in creative direction for high-volume print and digital media.
  • Expert proficiency in design platforms such as Adobe Creative Suite, Ceros, and Webflow.
  • A strong portfolio showing your range across print and digital and extensive background in photo shoot production, logistics, and art direction.
  • Experience managing photo and design budgets and external vendors.
  • Ability to work cross-functionally with Video, Product, and Audience Development teams.

What We Offer:

Entirely remote jobs that could be performed in Colorado: Employees can expect to be paid a salary of between $90,000 to $115,000. Additional benefits include health care, vision, dental, retirement, Flexible Time Away,  sick leave, and more.  This salary range is merely an estimate and may vary based on an applicant’s location, market data/ranges, an applicant’s skills and prior relevant experience, certain degrees and certifications, and other relevant factors
