Primary Duties and Responsibilities

The Education Coordinator I (Nurse Educator I) - Critical Care, serves as the educational resource for assigned service line. Assesses the educational needs of assigned area and provides in servicing, classes, on-line modules and other educations materials to achieve educational goals. Ensures that sound theoretical and technical criteria are established and incorporates evidence based practices. Participates in meeting or exceeding goals for quality indicators.

Oversees orientation for newly hired employees and annual skills review. Maintains competencies for assigned clinical staff. Serves as a mentor to frontline staff in innovation and research projects.

Education Coordinators assigned to inpatient hospital departments(s) are responsible for compliance in CMS Quality Outcome and Safety Indicators and in in a Magnet facility, exceeding Magnet outcome indicator benchmarks.

Based on service line, coordinates and participates in re-certification programs. Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • BSN required.
  • Minimum of four (4) years clinical experience in specialty required.
  • Experience with Power Point and presentation technology required.
  • MSN preferred.

License Required

Registered Nurse (RN) in the state of California - Current and in good standing.

License Preferred N/A

Certifications Required

  • BLS

    Additional requirements for specific departments are as follows:

  • Critical Care, Telemetry, Brain and Stroke Unit: ACLS required
  • Emergency Department: ACLS and PALS required.
  • Hoag Orthopedic Institute (HOI): ACLS required- Certification to be obtained within 90 days of employment.
  • LDR 5 - East, Mother Baby - 7 East, NICU: NRP required
  • Irvine Pre Post Unit and 1010-74270 Irvine Recovery Room/ PACU: BLS, ACLS, and PALS required
  • HHC ISC OP Surgery: BLS and ACLS required

Certifications Preferred

  • Specialty Certification preferred.

    Additional requirements for specific departments are as follows:

  • Emergency Department: AHA Instructor status and MICN preferred.
  • Hoag Orthopedic Institute (HOI): AHA Instructor status preferred.
  • Operating Room: CNOR preferred.
