The role of Environment, Health, and Safety (EHS) Program Manager plays an integral role in advancing these priorities while promoting a strong culture of proactive prevention, risk mitigation, and continuous improvement. Based in South San Francisco (SSF), this challenging and rewarding position is central to our Security, Safety, Health, and Environment (SSHE) department’s mission to deliver safe, sustainable solutions across the SSF campus and beyond.

Core Role and Impact

As an EHS Program Manager, you will oversee and execute programs designed to meet critical regulatory requirements, operational standards, and business needs. With a tactical approach, your focus will remain on implementing programs that mitigate risks and align with SSHE goals—all while enhancing workplace safety and environmental compliance. This role requires deep understanding of EHS principles and combines technical expertise with leadership capabilities. You’ll build cross-functional collaborations, engage proactively with stakeholders, and serve as a knowledgeable guide for your team, stakeholders, and vendors, fostering lasting partnerships and compliance across the board.

You’ll also have influence in creating a forward-thinking impact in the organization's safety, environmental, and health priorities. You'll manage crucial EHS programs, communicate goals effectively, and work directly with business partners for tailored management solutions. Beyond implementation, your engagement around incident handling, compliance reporting, and training will make a measurable difference.

The Opportunity

Responsibilities

In this role, the EHS Program Manager will focus on the following key areas:

  • Internal Representation: Serve as the EHS function representative in internal meetings and cross-functional teams, advocating SSHE priorities.

  • Program Oversight: Manage and oversee EHS programs with low-to-moderate risk levels, ensuring compliance and alignment with SSHE objectives.

  • EHS Implementation: Execute initiatives focused on risk mitigation, environmental compliance, and workplace safety standards.

  • Tactical Leadership: Set a positive example through integrity, accountability, empathy, and collaboration. Lead efforts to foster continuous improvement.

  • Collaboration: Build strong relationships across departments and with stakeholders, translating regulatory requirements into actionable compliance solutions.

  • Training and Engagement: Develop and deliver tailored training programs to meet diverse audience needs, ensuring effective content retention.

  • Emergency Response: Represent EHS during emergency response and business continuity events as needed, supporting organizational resilience.

Who You Are

Requirements

  • Educational Background: Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Health and Safety or related field with 3-7 years of experience, or 10 years of relevant experience without a degree.

  • Regulatory Expertise: General knowledge of regulatory compliance and environmental health standards.

  • Communication Proficiency: Strong written and verbal communication skills, capable of partnering with stakeholders across levels to drive solutions and alignment.

This position is not eligible for relocation.

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of California is $88,400.00 - $164,200.00 USD Annual.  Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law.  A discretionary annual bonus may be available based on individual and Company performance.  This position also qualifies for the benefits detailed at the link provided below.
