Orbital Industries is an AI Industrial company, with frontier AI embedded at every step in the production of critical physical products - from creating advanced materials to engineering and manufacturing.

Every Orbital Industries product is developed using CurieOS, our AI operating system, uniting AI-automated hardware engineering with AI-designed material science to achieve breakthrough real-world performance. We also offer CurieOS to our customers and partners, extending the same platform and workflows that power Orbital Industries to their own teams and products.

We have an ambitious mission and need excellent people in all our teams - AI research, operations, advanced materials, mechanical engineering, chemical engineering and manufacturing.

Working at Orbital Industries means working in vertically integrated teams across the full stack, from molecules to manufacturing. We're looking for people who have a love of physical technology, curiosity in AI and a desire to learn.

Role Overview

The Electrical Engineer will play a critical leadership role in the design, development, and delivery of advanced building systems design, such as power, communications, and life safety systems, with a focus on pre-fabrication and modular delivery within the high density data center market. This position is responsible for owning the full electrical design lifecycle - from early-stage concept development to detailed construction-ready electrical installation drawing packages - using Autodesk Inventor, Autodesk AutoCAD, Autodesk Revit, SKM, and associated digital tools.

Orbital Industries designs and delivers power and cooling for AI data centers across North America and Europe, with small engineering teams owning each project from concept to delivery. Every engineer works alongside Curie, our in-house AI platform, which handles the legwork so they can focus on design decisions and build tools the whole team uses.

The successful candidate will lead electrical system architecture, set standard designs, coordinate with mechanical engineering, software teams, external stakeholders, future production personnel and ensure all electrical designs meet client requirements, safety and applicable codes, performance, and manufacturability.

Key Responsibilities

Electrical Design and Engineering
  • Develop complete electrical system architectures for mission critical modular deployments.

  • Test and utilize AI within engineering workflows, expanding use cases and reducing engineering production time and errors.

  • Work closely with clients and stakeholders to understand their requirements and how they affect design and implementation.

  • Analyze electrical systems for short circuit, arc-flash, voltage drop and feeder derating. Produce load calculations, analyze system resiliency and failure scenarios.

Documentation & Deliverables
  • Generate release-ready drawing and specification packages including electrical single-line diagrams, installation layouts and floorplans, equipment and cable schedules, layouts, elevations, and component specifications.

  • Model electrical components and cable paths within Autodesk Inventor assemblies and Autodesk Revit Models, including fully built-out electrical equipment rooms (e-houses, e-skids), and specific components/equipment such as feeder/conveyance infrastructure, equipment placement, and device placement within models of multi-purpose spaces in coordination with other designers.

  • Build and maintain electrical content libraries, templates, and standards to streamline repeatable design patterns.

Manufacturer Coordination
  • Engage in vendor and manufacturer coordination and review of supplier component specifications (switchgear, UPS’s, Generators, general electrical distribution, meters, and branch devices/sensors, etc).

  • Review and approve vendor and manufacturer designs, assemblies, equipment, components, and devices.

What We’re Looking For
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent; P.Eng. or ability to obtain is required.

  • 5+ years of experience in building system electrical design.

  • Experience in Autodesk suite of software (AutoCAD, Revit, Inventor) and SKM or equivalent.

  • Strong experience producing electrical drawings for building systems.

  • Working knowledge of relevant electrical standards and codes.

  • Working knowledge of low voltage communication systems as it pertains to conveyance/raceway design.

  • Familiarity with modular and pre-fabricated electrical equipment power distribution (415V/480V/800VDC) is an asset.

  • Familiarity with medium voltage distribution and design practice is an asset.

  • Familiarity with networking design for high density, GPU data centers is an asset.

Why Join Orbital?
  • Competitive salary and equity package - the ability to own part of Orbital as we grow

  • Flexible and generous paid time off

  • Excellent health, dental and vision insurance plan

  • Regular company offsites

  • The experience of working in a cutting-edge organisation dedicated to a better future
