As an Electrical Engineer, you will design, develop, and prototype electrical systems for security products, collaborate across teams, and ensure high standards of functionality and reliability.
Who We Are
Sauron protects your family and home, bringing the innovations of autonomous robots and self-driving cars to residential security. Our team is led by veteran operators and engineers, alumni of Sonos, Paypal, Tesla, Apple, and Google. Sauron has raised an $27M seed round led by A* and Atomic with participation from other leading venture capital firms.
The Role
Sauron is creating a new paradigm in how homeowners interact with their properties and security systems. As an Electrical Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in electrical design efforts for our security systems. You will drive the design, development, and iteration of premium hardware products from concept through hands-on prototyping and early design work then onwards to manufacturing and installation, ensuring that they meet the highest standards of functionality, reliability, and design appeal.
You will work alongside cross-functional teams including perception engineering, software engineering, mechanical engineering, sales, and security operations to deliver world-class products. This role will also work with external partners including industrial design, manufacturing, and installation.
Why This Role Matters
You’ll be joining a deeply technical team obsessed with building real-world systems that make a tangible difference in people’s lives. We move quickly, iterate relentlessly, and ship with urgency - all while holding a deep respect for hardware craftsmanship and system reliability. If you're looking to solve challenging problems and reshape the face of security hardware, we want to talk.
What You’ll Do
- Prototyping: Devising rapid proof of concept with off the shelf materials. Planning for translation to a scalable product.
- Board Level Design: Starting from electrical architecture to schematic capture and layout for IoT-connected devices, camera systems, motorized mechanisms, and power systems.
- Bring-Up: Performing board and system level bring-up, debugging complex hardware/firmware interactions and iterating on every stage of development. Writing basic scripts to test hardware or working with software teams to understand execution of function.
- Testing & Validation: Conducting rigorous testing and hazard analysis. Writing up testing protocols to hand off to manufacturing partners.
- Performing DFMEA to identify potential failure modes and mitigate risks.
- Collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure project success.
- Lead external technical partners to collaborate on design efforts.
- Providing technical support and guidance to other team members.
- Coordinate with contractors and external vendors for electrical installations
- Come in everyday ready to learn something new.
Your Background Includes
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
- 3+ years of experience in electrical engineering.
- Proven experience in PCB design (Altium, KiCad, or similar)
- Comfort with multi-layer board layout
- Coding experience with C (Arduino, STM32, FreeRTOS, etc)
- Familiarity with lab equipment (oscilloscopes, signal generators, power supplies)
- Conducting DFMEA for electrical systems.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
Nice to Have
- Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
- Familiarity with camera, LiDAR, radar, or other sensing technologies used in perception or autonomous systems.
- Coding experience with Linux (raspberry pi, yocto, etc)
- Background in consumer electronics or IoT hardware with a strong emphasis on industrial design and premium fit and finish.
- Exposure to wireless or power-over-ethernet (PoE) hardware integration within a product system.
- Experience designing for field installation — considering ease of mounting, cable management, and serviceability in real-world environments.
- Familiarity with security industry standards, certifications, or compliance requirements (e.g., UL, FCC, CE).
- Experience collaborating directly with contract manufactures
We Value
1. The Power of "We": “Align, then Accelerate”
- We celebrate as a team and troubleshoot as a team.
- The goal is the mission, not the credit.
2. High Challenge, Low Ego: "Respect the person, debate the idea."
- Be ruthless with problems, but kind to people.
- Raise the bar, lower the shield
3. Speak up: "Silence is a setback."
- Your perspective is a requirement, not a suggestion.
- Speak the hard truths early so we can fix them fast.
4. Integrity in Motion: "Own the outcome, not just the task."
- Do what you say you’ll do.
- If it breaks, fix it. If it works, make it better.
5. Humanity at the Core: "Relationships over transactions."
- Earn trust through empathy and consistency.
- Anticipate needs before they become requests.
