The Employment Counsel will be the primary legal advisor on all employment matters for a dynamic, global company, providing strategic guidance to the People Team, executive management, and various departments globally, with a concentration in the US and Israel. This role is responsible for overseeing the legal aspects of employment, including drafting agreements, developing policies, managing pre-litigation strategy, and advising on critical employment decisions to mitigate risk. The mission is to promote legal compliance and best practices across a geographically dispersed workforce.
Responsibilities- Provide direct, day-to-day legal counsel on a wide range of employment matters, including hiring, performance management, accommodations, leaves, and terminations across multiple jurisdictions (US and globally).
- Manage and oversee all employment litigation and agency complaints, encompassing strategy development, outside counsel coordination, case management, and executive reporting.
- Draft, review, and update essential employment documentation, including Offer Letters, Proprietary Information and Inventions Assignment Agreements (PIIAAs), policies, and employee handbooks.
- Advise and collaborate with Human Resources and management on employee relations issues and workplace investigations, providing specific risk assessments and legal recommendations.
- 5+ years of full-time legal experience as an employment attorney, gained either in a law firm or an in-house legal department.
- JD (or equivalent degree) and current admission to the Bar in at least one United States jurisdiction.
- Documented experience in reviewing, drafting, and negotiating employment-related agreements (e.g., Offer letters, Separation Agreements, Consulting Agreements).
- Demonstrated experience counseling executive leadership and organizational stakeholders on critical employment-related decisions.
- Experience with employment laws specific to Israel, Portugal or the UK.
- Experience with compensation and benefits matters, including drafting or advising on commission plans and equity incentive plans.
- Experience supporting corporate transactions from a labor and employment perspective.
- Prior experience working with high-growth startup companies, either in-house or externally.
- Specific experience with US relocations and immigration-related matters.
- Documented experience managing employment-related investigations and/or litigation.
