As part of Waymo's Legal team, you will work on the exciting legal issues surrounding our transformational autonomous driving technology and help drive our business lines forward from technology ideation through scaled commercial deployment.  We partner with our public policy, safety, security and privacy experts to define transportation policy for the autonomous driving world to come, advising on regulatory changes that support and protect our users around the world.  We collaborate with our engineering, product, strategy and operations teams to develop and protect our intellectual property portfolio and drive our corporate and commercial transactions. We ensure compliance with an increasingly complex and dynamic range of global regulations. And we anticipate, mitigate, and litigate high-profile and precedent-setting legal matters.

This role follows a hybrid work schedule and reports to our Senior Counsel, Head of Employment Legal.

You will:

  • Report to the Senior Counsel, Head of Employment Legal, serve as a dedicated employment counsel, responsible for a variety of employment legal matters for Waymo
  • Provide advice and pragmatic, business-oriented solutions for a broad range of employment issues, including HR policies, recruiting, personnel actions, dispute resolution, ethics, wage and hour legal compliance, and contingent workforce needs
  • Provide legal support for internal investigations concerning potential code of conduct or other violations of internal Waymo policies
  • Prevent and resolve employment disputes and respond to agency claims, audits, and/or inquiries

You have:

  • Juris Doctor or equivalent degree
  • 10+ years of experience practicing employment law representing management at a law firm and/or in-house
  • Admitted to the bar and in good standing or otherwise authorized to practice law in California
  • Working knowledge of federal and California employment laws
  • Experience providing advice to HR and management on a broad range of employment legal issues, including HR policies, personnel actions, wage and hour legal compliance, dispute resolution, workplace safety, and contingent workforce needs
  • Willingness and ability to work collaboratively in a cross-functional environment on a broad range of legal matters
  • Experience interacting with federal and state agencies on employment matters
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to prioritize and manage numerous simultaneous projects under deadline pressure

We prefer:

  • Expertise advising U.S.-based companies with locations/offices in international locations
  • Direct or indirect (e.g., via a secondment) in-house experience
  • Experience in labor relations
  • Experience advising on international growth strategies and advising the business on managing workforces in those locations.

The expected base salary range for this full-time position across US locations is listed below. Actual starting pay will be based on job-related factors, including exact work location, experience, relevant training and education, and skill level. Your recruiter can share more about the specific salary range for the role location or, if the role can be performed remote, the specific salary range for your preferred location, during the hiring process. 

Waymo employees are also eligible to participate in Waymo’s discretionary annual bonus program, equity incentive plan, and generous Company benefits program, subject to eligibility requirements.
