Serverfarm is seeking an experienced Energy & Sustainability Manager who will primarily support the Operations, Product, Development, and Real Estate Teams. You will be responsible for managing, optimizing, and reporting energy and utility resources across a diverse portfolio of data center facilities. This role ensures energy procurement, efficiency, and sustainability objectives are achieved through a combination of strategic sourcing, PUE performance analysis, and operational excellence. You will also play a key role in supporting corporate sustainability goals through effective energy hedging, carbon reduction initiatives, and robust utility data management.
Key Accountabilities
- Lead the development and execution of energy and sustainability strategies that optimize consumption, reduce emissions, and control costs across the portfolio.
- Manage energy procurement in partnership with Operations, Legal, and Procurement, including tenders, supplier relationships, contract negotiation, and hedging strategies.
- Drive adoption of renewable energy, REC programs, and other low-carbon solutions, supporting customer offerings and company carbon reduction and net-zero goals.
- Support Development team to ensure new builds and acquisitions incorporate optimal utility infrastructure, metering, and energy performance design.
- Oversee utility performance and energy data management, including billing validation, consumption monitoring, and reporting of PUE, WUE, and other operational metrics.
- Monitor energy markets, tariffs, and regulatory developments to inform procurement and sustainability strategy.
- Collaborate with Operations Engineering and site teams to identify efficiency improvements and implement best practices in energy management.
- Ensure compliance with ISO 50001 and other client or regulatory requirements while developing reporting tools and dashboards to track utility cost, consumption, and performance across the portfolio.
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years in energy management, procurement, hedging and infrastructure development.
- Strong analytical background with expertise in PUE analysis, energy data interpretation, and statistical benchmarking.
- Experience developing and delivering energy and sustainability strategies that support carbonn reduction, renewable integration, and net-zero objectives.
- Understanding of BMS/EPMS and metering systems data capabilities, HVAC, electrical distribution, and renewable energy technologies.
- Proven track record leading complex projects and managing multiple stakeholders.
- Demonstrated ability to solve complex technical issues and regulatory requirements, and managing unexpected delays.
- Skilled in energy and sustainability reporting, including Scope 1–3 emissions and lifecycle carbon assessments.
- Understanding of ISO 50001 Energy Management Systems or similar frameworks.
- Excellent project management skills with the ability to manage multiple workstreams.
- Relevant qualifications in Energy, Engineering, Sustainability, or a related discipline preferred.
- Professional membership (CIBSE, Energy Institute, or equivalent) is desirable.
- Role involves some travel (approximately 10-20%)
