As an engineer on the hibernation team, you will develop hardware and software for cryopreservation systems, focusing on mechanical and electrical design.
Until is a moonshot company building a “pause button” for biology. Our near-term focus is organ-scale reversible cryopreservation: preserving donated organs at subzero temperatures without ice formation, then rewarming them uniformly for transplant. By solving this grand challenge, we’re laying the foundation for whole-body reversible cryopreservation, giving patients a bridge to future cures.
To achieve our goal, we are assembling an interdisciplinary team to develop perfusion systems, cryoprotectant formulations, vitrification and rewarming hardware.
We envision a future where no transplantable organ is lost to logistics, and no terminal diagnosis is final because patients can safely wait for future medicine to arrive.
About the Role
As an engineer on the hibernation team, you'll be building N-of-1 hardware and software stacks to cryopreserve whole organisms. This requires the ability to own mechanical design and fabrication, electrical design and bringup, and software architecture and development. If successful, you will be the principal engineer to demonstrate the feasibility of whole body reversible cryopreservation in rodents.
About you
- 3+ years of relevant engineering experience
- Mechanical design and fabrication experience (rapid prototyping, 3D printing, etc)
- Experience designing electrical circuits from protoboard to PCB
- Experience with object oriented programming in C++/python
- Eager to integrate into a neuroscience/biology group irrespective of past experience
- Track record of exceptional engineering
- Desire to join a small, fast paced team on an excellent adventure
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with fluidic circuits (heat exchange, perfusion, etc.)
- Experience working in a research biology context
