Engineering lead - AI Applications

What we need:

We are looking for an Engineering Leader to lead a team that is building interfaces and APIs to interact with AI models - while upholding high safety and ethical standards. You will manage a team of software engineers building core components of our API and client libraries. Responsibility for delivering timely and high quality code that delights our users, without being involved in training the underlying models, is integral to this position. Your core objective is to bolster our data-intensive AI services and applications, which allows our customers to adopt AI for unstructured data in a quick and seamless process. 

What you’ll do:

• Lead a team building full stack applications that use foundational AI models

• Architect client-side and server-side components

• Manage and advance the data pipelines ingesting video, audio, and image data  

• Plan and prioritize features and user stories  

• Hire and mentor software engineers

• Manage and maintain relational and NOSQL database systems

• Ensure quality through testing and code reviews

• Integrate with third-party services and data sources

• Drive roadmaps, business metrics, and OKRs  

• Collaborate with product and research teams

• Lead a team of top-performing engineers in an ambiguous and evolving environment  

What we look for:

• 5+ years engineering management experience

• Degree in CS or related technical field

• Experience with data systems and full stack development 

• Excellent leadership and communication skills   

• Experience in recruiting, scaling, and retaining engineering talent

• Passionate about building a culture of engineering excellence

Strong candidates may also have experience with some of the following:

• Experience building delightful experiences for productivity tools for both enterprise and consumer customers

• Experience collaborating closely with sales, security, and product to deliver on customer needs

• Experience partnering with product and design teams in a startup environment

• Experience with React, TypeScript, Python, etc.

• Fluent in one or more programming languages, e.g. Python, Go, Java (we use Python)

• Experience with containerization and orchestration tools, e.g. Docker, Kubernetes, etc.

• Interest in coaching and leading engineers 

• Commitment to transparency and accountability

• Proven experience in a B2B environment

• Previous MLOps experience is a bonus

• Proven experience with audio, video, and image data is a bonus

What you can expect from us:

• Location: San Jose, California (hybrid, with three days in office) 

The estimated annual base salary for this position is between $200,000-$250,000.*
