Role Overview

We’re looking for an Engineering Manager to lead a team building the platform capabilities and agentic AI applications that power Legion’s products.

This is a technical, player/coach leadership role spanning AI engineering, platform engineering, and product development. You’ll lead engineers working across agentic workflows, tools and integrations, platform services, and the data infrastructure required to run secure and reliable AI systems in production.

You’ll partner closely with Product, Design, go-to-market teams, and other engineering leaders to translate customer and business needs into technical priorities, while helping your team make strong architectural decisions and ship quickly. You’ll be responsible for team development and ensuring solid engineering practices across our AI applications and data infrastructure.

Responsibilities
  • Lead, mentor, and grow engineers working across agentic AI applications and platform systems.
  • Set expectations for team execution and delivery from early product concepts through production deployment and operation.
  • Partner closely with Product, Design, Platform Engineering, and go-to-market teams to translate customer problems into clear engineering priorities.
  • Establish strong engineering patterns for agent workflows, MCP and tool integrations, service design, APIs, deployment, and inter-service communication.
  • Guide architecture and engineering trade-offs, balancing rapid product iteration with long-term maintainability and platform scalability.
  • Bring an informed perspective to data infrastructure and data management for enterprise AI systems.
  • Remove blockers and improve engineering processes so the team can move quickly without sacrificing quality.
  • Stay close to the technology and contribute directly when needed, particularly on architecture, prototypes, and technically complex initiatives.
  • Foster a culture of ownership, collaboration, experimentation, continuous learning, and low-ego technical decision-making.
  • Recruit, mentor, and retain exceptional engineers.
Required Skills and Qualifications
  • 8+ years of software engineering experience, including significant experience designing and operating production software systems.
  • 2+ years of experience hiring, managing, and developing engineering teams.
  • Strong software architecture and systems engineering background, with the ability to guide technical decisions across application and platform layers.
  • Experience building or supporting AI/ML platforms or AI-powered products, including technologies such as LLMs, AI agents, model serving, MCP, tool calling, workflows, or enterprise integrations.
  • Hands-on experience with cloud infrastructure, distributed systems, and container orchestration technologies such as Kubernetes.
  • Strong technical judgment and the ability to make pragmatic trade-offs between speed, simplicity, scalability, and maintainability.
  • Experience partnering closely with Product and other engineering teams to define roadmaps and deliver customer value.
  • Proven experience hiring, mentoring, and developing high-performing engineers.
  • Excellent communication skills and a collaborative, low-ego leadership style.
  • Excitement for 0→1 product development and building at the intersection of AI infrastructure and customer-facing experiences.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working in Rust or leading teams operating in a Rust-heavy environment.
  • Familiarity with AI evaluation frameworks, observability, and production.
  • Experience designing systems for the enterprise
  • Experience in startup or high-growth environments where teams iterate rapidly.
  • Exposure to regulated or mission-critical industries such as defense, healthcare, finance, or telecommunications.
