A Little About Us

Within Yahoo Games, our mission is to make games a natural extension of the daily Yahoo experience—easy to discover, fun to play, and rewarding to return to. We are rebuilding Yahoo Games as a modern platform that blends high-quality casual games with strong platform capabilities across desktop and mobile web.

A Lot About You

We are seeking an experienced Engineering Manager (M4) to lead all engineering efforts within Yahoo Games. In this role, you will oversee a team of full-stack platform engineers and game developers, organizing and scaling engineering to support both game development and platform initiatives across desktop and mobile web.

This is a player-coach role: primarily focused on people leadership, execution, and technical direction, while remaining hands-on when needed. You will serve as the primary technical liaison for third-party game providers as well as key internal partners, ensuring strong technical alignment, smooth integrations, and high-quality outcomes.

Your Day at Yahoo
  • Lead and manage all Yahoo Games engineers, including full-stack platform engineers and game developers.

  • Organize engineering teams and workflows to support parallel development of games and platform initiatives.

  • Act as a player-coach—providing technical guidance, reviewing critical work, and contributing hands-on code when required.

  • Serve as the primary technical point of contact for third-party game providers and internal partner teams.

  • Partner with Product Management, Game Design, Production, and QA to scope, plan, and deliver games and platform features.

  • Own engineering execution, delivery quality, and technical outcomes for Yahoo Games.

  • Establish and evolve best-in-class engineering practices, standards, and processes.

  • Ensure strong collaboration between platform and game engineering workstreams.

  • Provide continuous, clear feedback to engineers; set expectations and support growth.

  • Hire, onboard, and develop engineering talent as the team scales.

  • Identify and proactively resolve technical, delivery, and resourcing risks.

  • Communicate technical concepts and tradeoffs clearly to cross-functional stakeholders.

  • Champion performance, reliability, scalability, and maintainability across the Yahoo Games platform.

You Must Have
  • 8+ years of professional engineering experience, with multiple years managing engineering teams.

  • Experience leading mixed teams of engineers with varied skill sets and seniority.

  • Strong hands-on experience building and maintaining web applications using TypeScript.

  • Experience with modern front-end and back-end frameworks (e.g., React, Node.js).

  • Experience architecting systems that support third-party integrations and external partners.

  • Familiarity with Agile/Scrum development and close collaboration with Product and Design.

  • Experience with modern CI/CD pipelines, testing practices, and release management.

  • Experience working with cloud platforms such as AWS or GCP.

  • Familiarity with SQL/NoSQL databases (e.g., DynamoDB, Postgres) and message queues (e.g., SQS).

  • Proven ability to balance people leadership, technical depth, and execution.

  • Strong communication skills and ability to explain complex technical concepts clearly.

  • Curiosity, bias for action, and a customer-first mindset.

Nice to Have

  • Experience working on games or interactive consumer products.

  • Familiarity with browser-based game development and performance considerations.

  • Experience supporting both first-party development and third-party integrations.

  • Experience scaling engineering organizations within growing product teams.

  • Experience using AI Tools such as Claude Code, VS Studio, Cursor or similar

Why This Role Is Different
  • You’ll own engineering across both platform and games, not just a single team.

  • You’ll shape how Yahoo Games is built, integrated, and scaled.

  • You’ll act as the technical backbone for internal teams and external partners.

  • You’ll work on a product with massive built-in distribution and real player impact.

The material job duties and responsibilities of this role include those listed above as well as adhering to Yahoo policies; exercising sound judgment; working effectively, safely and inclusively with others; exhibiting trustworthiness and meeting expectations; and safeguarding business operations and brand integrity.
