About the Role
Our Engineering team creates innovative product experiences that power personalized marketing at massive scale. We develop cutting-edge applications and systems that process 100s of billions of messages and events per year, enabling marketers to connect effectively with hundreds of millions of consumers. The automated messaging org builds products that power bespoke, one on one conversations between our brands and their customers. We leverage machine learning models, generative AI, and related backend infrastructure to drive performant, personalized messages at scale. We’re moving quickly in order to take advantage of all of the advances in AI and we’re building innovative products to give our brands the upper hand.
As an engineering manager you will join our product based team in San Francisco to support and lead the development of new products on the Attentive platform so that our brands have access to bleeding edge enhancements that give them the upper hand in marketing their products to their customers. We’re looking for an experienced leader that gets excited about building high quality products with the latest and greatest technology.
What You'll Accomplish
- Own one of our high-performing full stack engineering teams, evangelizing a culture of quality and product excellence
- Lead the buildout and enhancements of our AI capabilities, working cross functionally as well as with other engineering teams to bring new Attentive products to market
- Provide technical expertise and guidance on leveraging the latest trends in AI and building products at scale
- Partner with product, design, machine learning, and data science to balance building well designed products and shipping quickly
- Craft the team’s mission and roadmap to align with organizational goals
Your Expertise
- 7+ years of industry experience as a software engineer or equivalent building SaaS platforms
- 2+ years managing a high performing team of 6-8 full stack engineers or more
- Experience working on systems at scale including event driven architectures
- Experience working with modern web technologies and frameworks such as React, Java Springboot, AWS, Kubernetes, etc.
- Experience building team roadmaps and setting ambitious goals
- Experience navigating product requirements for B2B customers
- Strong product mindset and demonstrated ability to work with product managers and design partners
- Prior experience with SMS/MMS technologies a plus
What We Use
- Our infrastructure runs primarily in Kubernetes hosted in AWS’s EKS
- Infrastructure tooling includes Istio, Datadog, Terraform, CloudFlare, and HelmOur backend is Java / Spring Boot microservices, built with Gradle, coupled with things like DynamoDB, Kinesis, AirFlow, Postgres, Planetscale, and Redis, hosted via AWS
- Our frontend is built with React and TypeScript, and uses best practices like GraphQL, Storybook, Radix UI, Vite, esbuild, and Playwright
- Our automation is driven by custom and open source machine learning models, lots of data and built with Python, Metaflow, HuggingFace 🤗, PyTorch, TensorFlow, and Pandas

- The US base salary range for this full-time position is $214,400 - $285,000 annually + equity + benefits
- Equity is a substantial part of the total compensation package
