About the role

We're opportunistically hiring an engineering manager focused on product engineering. For this role, you MUST start off as an IC, and you MUST write code.
As Replo grows, so will your scope. You’ll set technical direction, mentor engineers, and define best practices across the team. This will evolve into managing teams and working directly with the co-founders, while shipping great products and staying close to the code.

Responsibilities
  • Lead and grow a team of exceptional engineers, providing mentorship and guidance to help them succeed and thrive.

  • Deeply understand customer needs and pain points to prioritize work and deliver solutions that drive real impact.

  • Own project execution end-to-end — planning, architecture, and delivery — while maintaining high quality and predictable timelines.

  • Collaborate with high-visibility teams and stakeholders to drive critical product and platform initiatives forward.

  • Provide hands-on technical leadership, from system architecture and design to incident response and roadmap definition.

  • Work every day with founders to shape and execute on the long-term vision for Replo's AI platform.

  • Partner with our Chief of Staff to attract top-tier engineering talent and define hiring strategies as the team scales.

Things you'll be working on

Architecting and implementing full-stack product features. Real examples include —

  • Enable merchants to sell anything, anywhere, including subscriptions, dropshipping, and digital products in one platform

  • Build agentic workflows that design and build online shops for anyone, from SaaS startups to M&Ms

  • Build out product & payments processing infrastructure for millions of users

  • Ingest billions of events/month using Kafka + ClickHouse, powering real-time dashboards and automating marketing strategies

  • Own our user onboarding and billing flow from end-to-end

Minimum requirements
  • Has a CS degree (or equivalent)

  • Can be in office 3-4 days/week in San Francisco

  • 5+ years of professional experience in software development

  • At least 2+ years of tech lead/engineering management

  • Experience leading projects on a cross-team or company-wide scale

  • Uses Cursor/Windsurf/GPT to accelerate their work

  • Has built products 0 -> 1 with real users and revenue

  • Is OK operating independently without product/design

  • Is ALWAYS SHIPPING. We don't spend weeks planning features at Replo

  • Has a product and customer-focused mindset

  • Values writing clean, maintainable software, including documentation (e.g. the code needs to be correct and run fast, but we’re the ones that have to read it and understand it)

  • Is comfortable with ambiguity and defining software architecture patterns to solve customer pain points

Bonus points if you
  • Experiencing managing teams in a people/technical capacity

  • Have started a company before

  • Enjoy attending hackathons

  • Worked at an early-stage (Series A or earlier) startup previously

  • Have not wasted hours interview-prepping on Leetcode

  • Have an eye for visual design (or past experience in product design, Figma, etc).

San Francisco and the surrounding Bay Area attracts more startup funding than any other region in the world. Home to Stanford University and UC Berkeley, leading VC firms and several of the world’s most valuable companies, the Bay Area is the place to go for anyone looking to make it big in the tech industry. That said, San Francisco has a lot to offer beyond technology thanks to a thriving art and music scene, excellent food and a short drive to several of the country’s most beautiful recreational areas.

Key Facts About San Francisco Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 365,500; 13.9% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Google, Apple, Salesforce, Meta
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, cloud computing, fintech, consumer technology, software
  • Funding Landscape: $50.5 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Sequoia Capital, Andreessen Horowitz, Bessemer Venture Partners, Greylock Partners, Khosla Ventures, Kleiner Perkins
  • Research Centers and Universities: Stanford University; University of California, Berkeley; University of San Francisco; Santa Clara University; Ames Research Center; Center for AI Safety; California Institute for Regenerative Medicine
