Ambrook helps American family-run businesses become more profitable and resilient.

From volatile markets to climate shifts, independent operators face mounting pressure. While sustainable investments often yield the best long-term returns, they require financial clarity and capital that fragmented legacy systems can’t provide.

We are rebuilding the financial infrastructure that independent operators rely on. By replacing paperwork with modern tools for accounting, banking, and spending, Ambrook gives owners the data they need to prove viability to lenders and the next generation. We empower the stewards of land and labor to make confident investments in their future.

We’re a Series A startup backed by Thrive Capital, Dylan Field, and Homebrew. We’re looking for early team members to help us untangle the intersection of American industry, climate, and the economy.

The Opportunity

Ambrook is building a world-class team. As an Engineering Manager, you will build excellence in product, people, and process. You will bolster leadership at the organizational level while hiring, mentoring, and growing individual contributors.

You’ll have the opportunity to see the direct impact of your work on real independent businesses, not just large enterprises. You’ll help define how a best-in-class team operates using the latest AI tools, supported by a leadership team with decades of experience.

We’re looking for someone who we can count on to…

  • Own: The entire employee lifecycle for a significant portion of the engineering team, including hiring senior ICs, mentoring, coaching, and performance management.

  • Teach: Best practices in engineering architecture, project leadership, and organizational communication.

  • Learn: The evolving landscape of software engineering over the next 12+ months and how to apply those shifts to our technical instincts and architectural integrity.

  • Improve: Our EPD (Engineering, Product, Design) leadership layer, project management hygiene, and cross-functional execution.

Within 1 month you'll...

  • Embed with the team to build and deliver a standalone feature, learning our tech stack and accounting domain firsthand.

  • Familiarize yourself with Ambrook’s product, research notes, and customer discovery interviews to build empathy for the producer.

  • Take over 1:1s and begin building trust-based relationships with your direct reports.

  • Analyze our current project management processes and identify immediate "low-hanging fruit" for workflow improvements.

Within 3 months you'll...

  • Take full ownership of hiring and headcount planning for your team, working closely with recruiting to attract top-tier talent.

  • Collaborate with Product and Design leadership to influence the roadmap and ensure technical debt is balanced with feature delivery.

  • Guide your team through the execution of a large, full-stack initiative, ensuring granular project breakdown and clear stakeholder communication.

  • Define career development plans and growth trajectories for your team members.

Within 6 months you'll...

  • Champion a culture of engineering excellence, connecting its value to the needs of our community and the broader business goals.

  • Scale the team effectively, potentially managing other managers or high-level leads as the organization grows.

  • Contribute to the long-term technical and organizational strategy of the engineering department.

  • Write about your experience in building a modern, AI-augmented engineering culture on Ambrook’s blog.

About You
  • Experience: 2–5+ years of engineering management experience, plus 3–5 years as a high-performing individual contributor.

  • AI Native: You understand how software engineering has already changed and have reasoned conviction about how it will change tomorrow, next month, and next year.

  • People First: You have a demonstrated track record of hiring, coaching, and solving problems through people first, then technology.

  • Technical Instincts: You have a deep understanding of software architecture and can guide a team through complex technical trade-offs.

  • Product Sense: You are excited to build software that makes independent businesses more sustainable and profitable.

  • Bonus: Experience in agriculture or building financial/fintech products.

  • Bonus: Experience with our stack (Typescript, React, React Native, Next.js, GCP).
