  • This is a full-time, in-person role based in San Francisco (Presidio) - we work from the office 5 days a week.

  • You must be based in the Bay Area or willing to relocate before starting.

  • We require US work authorisation, but are open to O-1 or J-1 visa sponsorship for exceptional candidates.

Being Real

Something didn't work out. We get it. Some YC companies don't end the way the founders pictured, but the people who come out of that experience are some of the sharpest operators we know. We're looking for founders who still have the fire and want to plug into something that's past zero-to-one but still wide open.

The Actual Opportunity

We're 15 people defining a new category: our main product, Sauna, is the first multiplayer AI brain. You'd be one of the first people showing the world what Sauna can do in a team where your work actually moves the company.

You Probably…
  • Ran a YC company

  • Know exactly what worked and what didn't

  • Still want to build something massive rather than settle into a comfortable role

  • Wear multiple hats

  • Are genuinely excited about AI agents, not just resume-excited

What the Role Looks Like

Shape is flexible. We've hired past founders into engineering, product, and growth roles. Tell us where you're strongest and we'll build the scope around you.

P.S.

We're backed by Spark Capital, Felicis, Y Combinator, Day One Ventures, and angels including Paul Graham, Vlad Magdalin (Webflow), Mathilde Collin (Front), and Paul Daugherty (Accenture). We raised $30M and we still work like a seed startup.

What you need to know about the San Francisco Tech Scene

San Francisco and the surrounding Bay Area attracts more startup funding than any other region in the world. Home to Stanford University and UC Berkeley, leading VC firms and several of the world’s most valuable companies, the Bay Area is the place to go for anyone looking to make it big in the tech industry. That said, San Francisco has a lot to offer beyond technology thanks to a thriving art and music scene, excellent food and a short drive to several of the country’s most beautiful recreational areas.

Key Facts About San Francisco Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 365,500; 13.9% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Google, Apple, Salesforce, Meta
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, cloud computing, fintech, consumer technology, software
  • Funding Landscape: $50.5 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Sequoia Capital, Andreessen Horowitz, Bessemer Venture Partners, Greylock Partners, Khosla Ventures, Kleiner Perkins
  • Research Centers and Universities: Stanford University; University of California, Berkeley; University of San Francisco; Santa Clara University; Ames Research Center; Center for AI Safety; California Institute for Regenerative Medicine
