Y Combinator is the leading startup accelerator for entrepreneurs. Since 2005, YC has invested in over 6,000 companies, including Airbnb, Dropbox, OpenAI, Stripe, Reddit, DoorDash, Coinbase, and Instacart. Today, YC has built the most powerful startup community in the world and is committed to supporting founders for the life of their company.

Job Description:

Y Combinator is looking for an experienced Executive Assistant to work directly with two General Partners. You’ll help manage their calendar, organize and run events, and use internal YC software to manage communications with our founders and portfolio companies.

The ideal candidate is a self-starter who is comfortable working independently from our San Francisco headquarters. This is an amazing opportunity if you’re curious about startups, enjoy learning how they get started, and would find it interesting to meet the people who start them.

This is also a unique opportunity to enjoy many of the perks of working for a successful company, including a competitive salary and excellent benefits, while working with a small, fast-moving, high-impact team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Administrative tasks, including scheduling and calendar management. You’ll help schedule internal and external meetings, preventing conflicts and helping our General Partner use their time efficiently.

  • Plan, execute, and attend many events. You’ll be responsible for helping with the logistics of events held at the YC office and other locations, ranging from 20 to 500+ attendees. You must be available to work evenings and occasionally on weekends. That said, hours are flexible to accommodate time spent outside of standard office hours.

  • Plan, execute, and attend domestic and international events and college tours, along with your General Partner(s).

  • Coordinate travel and be generally able to process ad hoc tasks expeditiously and proactively.

  • Comfortable using AI tools thoughtfully in daily work and to make processes more efficient.

  • Work cross-functionally with other YC team members as needed.

  • Writing projects as requested.

Skills & Experience:

  • At least 5 years of experience as an Executive Assistant or working in an operations/support position.

  • Comfortable supporting multiple executives with different leadership styles.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills. Evidence of strong writing ability will be valued especially highly.

  • Strong organizational, project management, problem-solving skills, and multitasking abilities.

  • Friendly demeanor.

  • Familiar with startups.

Every employee at YC has significant individual responsibility and access to sensitive information, so we need to hire people we can trust. Your ability to make good trade-offs and exercise good judgment is particularly important to us.

Location: YC is headquartered in San Francisco, and candidates must reside in the San Francisco Bay Area. Our Executive Assistants are expected to work from our Dogpatch offices in San Francisco at least three days per week, with additional in-person availability for afternoon and evening events and occasional weekend events.

Compensation: $180,000-$225,000 salary (depending on skills and experience).

Benefits: Our full benefits package includes medical, vision, and dental plans, an infertility benefit, STD/LTD, life insurance, commuter benefits, a flexible spending account, a health savings account, a 401(k) with 4% matching, generous parental leave, paid holidays, and a flexible paid time off policy.

Work Authorization: This position does not support work authorization/visa sponsorship.
