Job Description:

Reports To: Senior Program Manager

Employment Type: Full-Time / Exempt

Work Location: School-Based Community School and Beacon Site

Purpose:

Expanded learning programs are structured educational opportunities that occur outside the traditional school day, combining academic support, enrichment activities, and skill-building to enhance students’ overall learning and development. The Beacon Director is responsible for providing strong leadership, as well as possessing knowledge, fiscal, and administrative skills to support and manage their site. The Beacon Director will lead program design and implementation, supervise staff, and collaborate with school leadership and community partners to provide a wide range of services that meet community needs. The Beacon Director will also co-lead the community school effort using the SFUSD Community School Framework and the Beacon Model.

Benefits:

  • Salary of $77,000- $87,000 annually, based on regional grant funding and experience 

  • Full-time 40 hours a week, year-round; depending on the district and tier the position falls in 

  • Up to 16 paid BACR holidays per year and 8.33 hours of vacation accrual per pay period

  • Co-lead Community School implementation using the SFUSD Community School Framework and Beacon Model.

  • Ensure compliance with BACR policies, district requirements, grant agreements, contracts, and applicable regulations.

  • Monitor program operations to ensure adherence to safety, risk management, mandated reporting, and operational protocols.

  • Submit all required reports, narratives, attendance documentation, evaluations, and compliance materials accurately and on time.

  • Oversee subcontract management processes, ensuring contracts, deliverables, invoices, and reporting requirements are completed accurately.

  • Collaborate with BACR departments to support hiring, onboarding, personnel matters, fiscal accountability, and operational excellence.

  • Maintain accurate records and systems that support effective program administration and compliance.

Key Responsibilities

Staff Leadership & Development
  • Supervise and develop Program Coordinators, Family Engagement Coordinators, Behavioral Health Specialists, and other site leadership staff.

  • Conduct regular supervision meetings, coaching sessions, observations, and performance evaluations.

  • Support leadership staff in identifying strengths, growth opportunities, and professional development goals.

  • Create a culture of accountability, collaboration, innovation, and continuous learning.

  • Support staff recruitment, interviewing, onboarding, retention, and succession planning efforts.

Strategic Program Leadership
  • Provide overall leadership for program design, implementation, and community impact initiatives.

  • Ensure alignment between Beacon programming, school-day priorities, district expectations, and community needs.

  • Represent BACR and the Beacon initiative at community meetings, district committees, professional networks, and public events.

  • Serve as a visible and engaged leader who models BACR values and promotes organizational excellence.

Fiscal Stewardship & Resource Management
  • Develop, monitor, and manage site budgets to ensure responsible use of grant and contract funds.

  • Review and approve expenditures, timesheets, and budget allocations in accordance with organizational and funder requirements.

  • Monitor spending patterns and make strategic adjustments to maximize program impact and fiscal sustainability.

  • Ensure resources are allocated effectively to support program goals and community priorities.

  • Collaborate with BACR leadership to identify funding opportunities and support long-term program sustainability.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSRequired
  • Associate degree or higher; alternatively, completion of at least 48 college units or passage of the Instructional Aide Examination.

  • Minimum of 3–5 years of supervisory experience in expanded learning, youth development, education, community schools, or related fields.

  • Demonstrated success leading teams, developing staff, and managing complex programs.

  • Experience building partnerships with schools, community organizations, government agencies, and funders.

  • Strong project management, organizational, and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

  • Experience developing and monitoring budgets and overseeing fiscal accountability.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Proficiency with Google Workspace, Microsoft Office, databases, and program management systems.

  • Successful completion of a criminal background check and TB clearance.

Preferred
  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Public Administration, Social Work, Community Development, Nonprofit Management, or a related field.

  • Experience working within Community Schools, Beacon Centers, Collective Impact initiatives, or place-based partnership models.

  • Knowledge of SFUSD Community School Framework and youth development best practices.

  • Bilingual skills reflecting the communities served.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Ability to stand, sit, walk, kneel, and move throughout school and community environments for extended periods.

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds.

  • Ability to attend community meetings, school events, conferences, and trainings as required.

  • Ability to travel locally between program, district, and community partner locations.
